The Nebraska Supreme Court is taking applications for the position of Information Systems Specialist. Under general supervision, work responsibilities involve but are not limited to providing end user hardware and software support including A/V/Web to Court/Probation offices.

This position serves as primary point of contact for technology related issues to troubleshoot and provide solutions whether through direct intervention, or as a liaison to service providers and 3rd party support agencies and vendors. Supported systems and hardware include but are not limited to: network devices and connections, e-mail system, Internet access, desktop and laptop computers, printers, and scanners, video conferencing systems, online software applications, video recording, telephone and voice conferencing systems, and digital recording.

Work schedule:8-5 M-F

Examples of Work

Duties include providing technical support to end users of common desktop operating systems and applications. Responding in a friendly manner to end user requests for computer assistance (either via the phone, email or in person). Providing technical support to administrators of online applications and communicating with application providers.

Working with wireless WAN and LAN technologies. Setup and configure digital recording equipment and assisting clients with training and troubleshooting. Setup and configure video conferencing systems and assisting clients with training and troubleshooting.

Developing instructional material to assist users with software/hardware. Communicating with vendors, technical support staff, Internet service providers and web hosts. Researching and experimenting with many new hardware devices and software applications which may provide a benefit to the court system and/or probation. May be involved with purchasing of software and hardware.

Qualifications / Requirements

REQUIREMENTS: Post high school coursework/technical certificates in computer science, information technology, or comparable discipline.

PREFERRED: Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and two years of related technical and business experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must have good trouble shooting skills in order to solve hardware and software problems and have the ability to do this at remote locations throughout the state. Must be able to handle stress derived from deadlines and multiple requests for assistance.

Must be able to learn quickly with minimal supervision. Must have good communication skills in both writing and speaking to others. Must be available to work overtime when necessary (i.e. special projects, computer hardware and software upgrades, etc.). Strong analytical and product management skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements. Ability to set priorities and manage the work to those priorities.

Working Conditions and Travel: This position requires approximately 75% of work time spent in an office environment and the remaining 25% of work time spent traveling and working in other NDE offices, educational service units, and off-site meeting locations. Qualifications / Requirements Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in a related field and eight years of experience related to the essential functions of the position to include leadership and managerial experience. Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position. Preferred Qualifications: The completion of a doctorate or equivalent academic endeavor such as a Juris Doctor or Six-Year Specialist Certificate. Experience in a state government or education environment managing and directing broad-based systems and operations.
