Information Security Specialist

The Information Services Division (ISD) provides a full range of services for the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT).

This position is responsible for the information security program for MDT.

The successful candidate will establish and maintain the IT Security Program for the Montana Department of Transportation consistent with the State of Montana Information Security Policy, which is based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800 series and Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) Publications 199 and 200; lead the implementation of an MDT Information Security Risk Management Program; create and maintain MDT information security documents (policies, procedures, standards, baselines, and guidelines); create, manage, maintain and promote an MDT user security awareness and education program; and participate in the development and maintenance of business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

In your role, you will work as part of an IT Information Security Team in an agile environment with a focus on educating the agency on security best practices, controls monitoring, policy and process development, and security compliance support. You will be working with a team of professionals with strong information security knowledge and experience to coordinate, communicate, and implement information security practices.

A strong understanding of and experience in organization-wide information security program management is essential. The ideal candidate will have excellent client and business interaction skills as well as outstanding written and verbal communication skills with expertise in relating to technical and non-technical staff.

Education: The required knowledge and skills are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related field.

This position requires a minimum of 3 years of information technology experience, with at least two focused on information security.

Certifications, licensure, or other credentials include: Advanced security certification such as CISSP, CISM, or ISC2 SSCP is preferred.

The State Information Technology Services Division is seeking an individual with a technical IT background (sys-admin, developer or cyber-security) seeking to advance their career into pro-active security planning and risk assessment for an enterprise-level entity. The successful incumbent should possess an exceptional ability to work with people to influence, advise, and guide security planning efforts for state agencies in a decentralized IT structure. In this capacity, you will work with semi-autonomous agency CIO's, security staff, and select agency management where success in this role will be predicated on your ability to impart the criticality of best-practice security planning in a world of ever-increasing cyber threats to business and government.
