This position is designated as Hybrid

  • Fully Flexible and expected to work from our World Headquarters office once per month to several times a week. The specific days in the office are determined by managers based on business requirements. Rotary is under the jurisdiction of Illinois employment laws; we require all employees to live within reasonable daily commuting distance to Evanston.

Overview

The Information Security Officer plays a pivotal role in providing visionary leadership and strategic direction for security initiatives within the organization. Responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of security measures across enterprise IT systems, business operations, and facility defenses, the position ensures robust protection against security breaches and vulnerabilities. This position involves shaping security strategies, implementing policies, and actively participating in governance processes related to security strategies.

The Security Officer leads a team that plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization's assets, ensuring the integrity of its operations, and fostering a culture of security awareness. Through strategic planning, policy implementation, and effective collaboration, the position upholds the highest standards of security excellence to protect the organization from emerging threats and vulnerabilities.

You Will Have

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in information security, with at least 5 years managing a team of security architects, engineers, and analysts.

  • Profound knowledge of security technologies, standards, and best practices.

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.

  • Demonstrated aptitude for leading cross-functional teams and driving organizational change.

  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA or similar are highly desirable.

You Will Be Responsible For

Strategic Leadership

  • Participate as a key member of the senior management team in shaping the organization's security strategies.

  • Lead strategic security planning, aligning defense initiatives with business objectives, and employing a risk-based assessment methodology to evaluate and manage security technologies.

Security Strategy and Planning

  • Develop and articulate comprehensive security strategies and plans, communicating them effectively to executive leadership, staff, partners, customers, and stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the design and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans, ensuring robustness through periodic audits and enhancements.

Policy and Procedure Management

  • Develop, implement, and enforce security policies, procedures, and associated plans for system administration and user access, adhering to industry-standard best practices.

  • Define corporate standards and guidelines for acquiring, implementing, and operating new security systems, technologies, and equipment.

Communication and Advocacy

  • Serve as a vocal advocate for the company's security vision, fostering regular communication and collaboration with executives, department heads, and end-users.

  • Collaborate closely within the IT department to integrate security measures seamlessly into corporate technology development.

Security Systems Administration

  • Oversee the administration of computer security systems and software, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, cryptography systems, and antivirus software.

  • Manage the administration of facility security systems and associated equipment, such as fire alarms, locks, intruder detection systems, and anti-theft measures.

Budget Management and Compliance

  • Develop, monitor, and control annual operating and capital budgets for security services, ensuring effective allocation of resources for purchasing, staffing, and operations.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, recommending and implementing changes to security policies and practices as needed.

Problem Resolution and Risk Assessment

  • Provide innovative and cost-effective resolutions to security challenges, leveraging independent problem-solving skills.

  • Conduct thorough risk assessments and communicate identified security risks associated with company practices or purchases.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Other duties may include, but are not limited to, working with Rotary's customers on inquiries, leading department meetings, working on special projects, and testing system updates.
