Job Description

The Information Security Coordinator (ISO) plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the organization's information technology systems and data from security threats and vulnerabilities. This position is responsible for coordinating and implementing IT security measures, policies, and procedures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical information assets. The Information Security Coordinator collaborates with cross-functional teams to maintain a robust security posture and compliance with industry standards.

Major Responsibilities:

Security Policy Development:

  • Develop, update, and maintain IT security policies, standards, and procedures in alignment with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure dissemination and adherence to security policies across the organization.

Security Awareness and Training:

  • Conduct security awareness programs and training sessions for staff to enhance their understanding of security risks and best practices.

  • Foster a culture of security consciousness within the organization.

Vulnerability Management:

  • Oversee vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify weaknesses in systems and applications.

  • Coordinate remediation efforts to address identified vulnerabilities promptly.

Incident Response Planning:

  • Develop and maintain an incident response plan to guide the organization's response to security incidents.

  • Lead incident response efforts, working with IT and relevant stakeholders to minimize impact.

Security Monitoring and Alerts:

  • Implement and manage security monitoring systems to detect and respond to security events in real-time.

  • Investigate and analyze security alerts, taking appropriate actions to mitigate risks.

Access Control Management:

  • Manage user access rights, permissions, and roles to ensure least privilege access.

  • Conduct periodic access reviews and implement access controls.

Security Audits and Compliance:

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors to facilitate security audits and assessments.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.

Security Technology Evaluation:

  • Evaluate and recommend security technologies, tools, and solutions to enhance the organization's security posture.

  • Stay updated on emerging threats and security trends.

Policy Enforcement and Reporting:

  • Enforce IT security policies and standards, taking corrective actions when necessary.

  • Prepare and deliver regular security reports to management and stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related field and four years of related professional experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree (i.e., AA+5 yrs related professional experience). A minimum of an Associate's degree is required.

  • Proven experience in IT security, risk management, and policy development.

  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks, standards, and technologies.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to IT security.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry-recognized certifications such as Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess and prioritize security risks.

  • Master's Degree

Additional Information:

The IT Security Coordinator is a crucial member of the organization's IT security team, responsible for maintaining a secure and compliant IT environment. This role may require occasional on-call duties and participation in incident response activities. The IT Security Coordinator plays a pivotal role in safeguarding sensitive information and upholding the organization's security posture.

Minimum Starting Salary Information:

This position is at a salary grade D. The minimum of the placement range is $85,478.40. The selected candidate will be placed at or above the minimum based on education and experience. WNC's placement range falls within the NSHE salary schedule: NSHE ADMINISTRATIVE SALARY SCHEDULE

Grants-in-aid for Faculty Employees

WNC is proud to provide a reduced-rate tuition benefit to faculty and qualified dependents. Faculty can take up to six credits per semester at a reduced rate. Dependents of faculty have unlimited credits, but in order to be eligible children must be unmarried and under the age of 24 and must receive at least 50% of their financial support from the employee and/or employee's spouse or domestic partner.
