Duties

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Assists the supervisor in the daily operation of the Information Office of the Superior Court

  • Provides information, telephonically and in person, regarding daily court calendars, judicial courtroom assignments, and location of various court offices and divisions

  • Provides court related information, telephonically and in person, to government officials, the general public, foreign dignitaries, corporate officials, attorneys, witnesses, defendants, plaintiffs, and visitors

  • Uses a computer to research and provide answers to inquiries from the public (i.e. status of a case or record, etc.)

  • Reports unusual conduct or behavior of visitors to the attention of security personnel and refers accidents or sudden illness to the Health Unit

  • Possesses a calm, clear and distinctive voice to operate the court's paging system

  • Maintains a record of requests from courtroom staff pertaining to the paging of attorneys

  • Provides Spanish interpretations and translations for respondents, litigants, and the public

Must speak, interpret, read and write English and Spanish fluently.

The starting salary will be a Grade 6, step 3 unless currently in the Federal Government or DC Government.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High-school diploma or GED plus two (2) years of clerical or administrative experience in a court, legal or office environment. Experience with Windows Operating System is required.

Documentation of education (copy of HS diploma, GED certificate, or college transcript or degree) must be submitted with your application or your application will not be considered.

The incumbent should be an enthusiastic and engaged professional who enjoys working with a diverse group of Court personnel and customers and lives the DC Courts' values of Accountability, Excellence, Fairness, Integrity, Respect, and Transparency.

Must speak, interpret, read and write Spanish and English fluently.

Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts are required. If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.

Employees can carry over no more than 240 hours of annual leave into the next leave year.

Sick Leave is used for personal medical needs, care of a family member, or adoption related purposes. Full-time employees earn four(4)hours of sick leave biweekly. This leave can be accrued without limit.

In addition to the federal health plans, the DC Courts offer employees supplemental vision and dental plans as well as a commuter transit benefit subsidy, for a maximum of $150 a month. There are 26 pay periods in the year.
