The Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices Industrial Design & Human Factors (IDHF) organization is seeking multi-faceted, exceptionally talented, Information & Interaction Design Co-ops who are passionate about improving the quality of people's lives through remarkable user experiences.

This position will be based at our Cincinnati, OH offices and will report directly to the designers at that location.

The IDHF organization is responsible for user-centered aspects of new product development for J&J Medical Device businesses: Acclarent, Biosense Webster, DePuy Synthes Orthopaedics (Sports, Spine, Joint Reconstruction, Trauma), Ethicon, Mentor, Sterilmed, and J&J Vision.

  • Our team leads contextual research to discover unmet user needs, designs information to facilitate understanding and collaboration, and creates concepts to address those needs.

  • We test concepts iteratively with stakeholders through a robust formative and summative usability process to identify the best fit, then partner with the cross-functional New Product Development teams to ensure that the relevance and delight of the original idea is preserved through market launch.

  • We are a collaborative team, dedicated to improving patient outcomes by delivering exceptional user experiences to healthcare professionals.

  • This role is for students who are passionate about crafting clarity from complex sets of information and creating digital user interfaces for medical devices.

  • Students will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to active projects across our organization, impacting experiences for both our colleagues and healthcare professionals.

  • Depending on what projects are active during your rotation, you will partner with our designers to analyze user workflows, audit the competitive landscape, perform usability heuristic evaluations, prioritize user requirements, define information architecture, wireframe interfaces, visually design interfaces, build interactive prototypes for testing, and develop presentations for storytelling purposes.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled in an accredited college/institution pursuing a Bachelors or Master's Degree in Communication Design or Interaction Design

  • Students must be authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship.

  • Only students in their second year of Bachelors or above with a 3.0 GPA will be considered

  • Portfolio of work (uploaded PDF or link to website) available for review that demonstrates o Strong organizational, critical-thinking, problem solving, communication, and presentation skills

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Understanding of user-centered design principles, methodologies, best practices and approaches; particularly as applied to information visualization for static and interactive environments

  • Experience with shaping large amounts of information to clarify complexity.

  • Experience in creating interactive prototypes

  • Proficiency using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and current design software (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Interaction Design applications)
