This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs is looking to fill an Information Desk

  • Customer Service Staff (Utility Worker) to assist the state.

The State Historical Museum of Iowa is seeking qualified candidates to join the Information Desk

  • Customer Service team. This part time position requires candidates to work during facility's operating hours which are Monday

  • Saturday, 9 AM - 4:30 PM. The Information Desk

  • Customer Service team is responsible for creating a positive visitor experience by offering guidance and general knowledge of the museum exhibits, creating an environment that is welcoming and promotes learning across all ages, and provides outstanding customer service to all visitors.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and perform other duties as assigned. Primary functions include;

  • Assist visitors by providing general information about the State Historical Museum of Iowa, including orientation, exhibits and educational programming.

  • Actively engage with visitors to determine their reason for visiting and make suggestions based on their reason/interests. Respond promptly to guest comments, questions and concerns.

  • Ensure visitors are aware of facility policies including the photography policy, school group policies, etc.

  • Assist with managing crowds during high visitation times.

  • Obtain important visitor information via Salesforce kiosk stands. Maintain integrity of equipment and report issues to the leading supervisor.

  • Organize, clean and monitor the information desk and surrounding areas to ensure it's presentable and safe.

  • Maintain integrity of exhibits, specifically Hands on History, by ensuring the space is clean and organized.

  • Maintain knowledge of State Historical Museum of Iowa programs and events to better serve visitors.

  • Participate in training opportunities at the State Historical Museum of Iowa.

  • Provide administrative assistance to multiple departments by transferring calls, directing mail/packages, etc.

  • If time allows, assist with department based projects (scanning documents for the State Historic Preservation Office, educational programming, inventory equipment, etc.)

Key competencies which are needed for this position include;

  • Ability to effectively communicate with visitors. Remain polite, courteous and helpful at all times.

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

  • Ability to solve complex problems and independently make decisions.

  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities * Load and unload of baggage, cargo, freight, and company materials on and off aircraft * Transport items between terminals, aircraft and the bag room using belt-loaders, tugs, carts and other vehicles/equipment * Marshal aircraft which requires working closely with teammates to ensure there is a safe path for the aircraft, jetbridge, vehicles, and equipment * Clean and service cabin interiors, including seatback pockets, seat cushions, tray tables, overhead bins, cockpit, galley, and the lavatory which also include following procedures to properly drain the lavatory * De-ice aircraft which requires using equipment to apply chemicals/compounds, if applicable * Answer inquiries regarding general travel information * Promote and sell air travel with American Airlines, American Eagle, and/or other contracted carriers * Prepare itineraries, compute fares, issue refunds, prepare/issue tickets, check baggage and collect excess baggage charges * Perform duties in the departure lounges or at boarding gates when enplaning and deplaning passengers * Escort passengers from the terminal to and from aircraft ensuring a safe path at all times * Complete all necessary arrangements for accommodating passengers with reservations and stand-by passengers, including cabin upgrades * Determine flight close-out times and prepare, complete and check various flight forms for accuracy Job Requirements In this role, Agents must be able to perform all duties under sometimes stressful conditions beyond the employee's control while attempting to influence a favorable impression of American Eagle, American Airlines or any other contracted airline service provided by Envoy. Must be able to work with minimal supervision be self-motivated and safety conscious.
