Job Title: Informatics Analyst
Pay: Up to $40 per hour depending on experience
An exciting opportunity of joining the research informatics department is immediately available. This contract term is for 12 month and renewable.
This position is involved in supporting both in-house developed and commercial applications for both structure-based drug discovery and biologics discovery processes. This individual will be expected to perform all supporting analyst tasks with no guidance or supervision i.e. data entry, maintaining project plans, defect tracking, training material generation & maintenance. Some analyst tasks would be expected with guidance and supervision i.e. creating project plans, budget planning, new systems evaluation, new scientific workflow design, pilot programs, etc.
Position Responsibilities :
Providing training, support, and troubleshooting for all Informatics scientific applications
Creating and maintaining application user guides and online tutorials
Maintaining change tracking systems (i.e. enhancements, bug fixes, data entry, project plans)
Generating scientific reports for departments, researchers, drug discovery project teams
Receive incoming requests (email, phone, face-to-face) for support and collaborate with senior team members to provide timely solutions
Assist in collaborating with scientific department / project leaders to design new scientific workflow processes
Assist in gathering requirements to enhance, fix, or build software solutions of minimal complexity
Collaborate with software engineers to enhance or implement systems of minimal complexity
Participate in application testing, defect/enhancement tracking, and resolution
Determining system specifications and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility of minimal complexity
Assist in coordination with other groups (IT, Chemistry, Biology) to implement new systems
Coordinate with vendors for systems evaluation and pilot programs
Setup, configuration, and administration of scientific information systems
B.A./B.S. in Biology or Chemistry with 0-2 years experience or;
B.A./B.S. in Biology or Chemistry and M.S. in Biology, Chemistry, or Computer Information Science
In-depth knowledge of chemistry/ biology scientific processes and systems (e.g. chemical inventory/registration, reagents, LCMS, NMR, ACD, sample management, clone/sequence registration, protein purification, LIMS, ELN, knowledge base management, enzyme kinetics)
Familiarity with one of the following chemical drawing software tools: ChemDraw, Marvin
Familiarity with sequence alignment and analysis
Familiarity with blast tools from database creation to querying
Familiarity with using publicly available bioinformatics/genomics databases, tools and algorithms; web resources such as NCBI, reference datasets such as IMGT
Basic understanding and working knowledge of Amazon Web Services (S3, EC2, EBS, AMI, etc)
Familiarity with Drug Discovery research processes (e.g. compound synthesis, biological assays, DMPK, SAR, etc.)
Experience with some of the following scientific software tools : ActivityBase, D360, Spotfire, StarDrop, Prism, Genedata Biologics, JChem for Excel
Good working knowledge of internet technology concepts (e.g. websites, SharePoint, HTML, XML)
Strong computer skills (e.g. installing software, typing, applications, operating system i.e. Windows)
Strong communication skills
Expert with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
Familiarity with SQL, HTML, CSS, Visual Basic
