Administrative Innovation and Technology is part of the Finance, Operations & Administration (FOA) organization and manages a diverse end to end portfolio of technology services essential to the entire UC Davis campus including UC Davis Health System

The Data Operations & Integrations Team at FOA leads and manages all aspects of Technology Operations for the FOA division. Campus-wide, business-critical information systems managed by FOA include the following mission-critical campus-wide systems: Oracle Financial System Data Operations, AggieExpense Integrations, Managed File Transfer Systems, Business Intelligence, Data Pipeline Operations, Campus Time Reporting System (TRS), Electronic Document Management (AggieDocs), Faculty Effort Reporting System, Cost Share Integrations, and UC Path Integrations.

Job Summary

Under general direction of the FOA Data Operations and Integrations Manager, provide moderately complex level application and data integrations support in a fast paced environment for a variety of custom in-house, open source, Software as a Service (SaaS) and vendor provided multi-tier products. Configure and performance tune web, SaaS and back-end applications and programs. Analyze, design, build and maintain batch and web-tier applications to support recurring operational tasks and processes. Monitor, troubleshoot, analyze, program, and provide operational support for FOA managed computing systems (campus-wide and internal FOA systems).

Daily responsibilities include job management, scheduling, output review, error analysis, diagnostics, ad-hoc report building, data analysis, code deployment, application configuration, documentation, shell scripting, client support, database and application programming.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Position requires extended periods of time at workstation working on a computer.

  • Travel to meetings on and off campus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work on a personal computer for extended periods of time.

  • Travel to meetings on an as-needed basis.

  • Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions.

  • Work hours outside standard 8 AM to 5 PM schedule, usually on short notice when required. Work occasional holidays and weekends. Limited vacation during peak workload periods.

  • Work in a dynamic, distracting, knowledge-sharing environment.

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of files and data to protect privacy and rights of individuals

  • Work with constant interruptions and distractions and constant traffic and noise from telephone conversations, visitors, staff, etc.

  • Employee is personally responsible for following and adhering to University safety policies and procedures.

  • Work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet operational and business needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education/Experience:

  • 3+ years of combined experience in software development and/or systems administration.

  • Experience in integrating open source and third-party applications into existing systems both on-prem and SaaS.

  • Experience in SQL, PL/SQL, data analysis relational databases for complex queries on large databases.

  • Experience with managed file transfer, scheduling and staging of batch files and feeds using custom scripts or vendor tools (e.g., GoAnywhere)

  • Experience using programmatic API services provided by major cloud providers (S3, EC2, ECS, etc.)

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Proficiency in Linux shell scripting (bash, ksh, csh, etc) , VI editor, Linux utilities (awk, grep, sed, find, etc).

  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills to analyze and evaluate technical requirements, information, or problems in an objective manner and make logical conclusions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in Mongo DB data analysis for complex queries on large databases.

  • Experience maintaining job schedules in two or more of the following: Linux cron, Quartz, SpringBatch, or enterprise schedulers (e.g., Control-M, Autosys, Workload Automation, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform)

  • Demonstrated experience with maintaining user, roles, permissions in central identity management solutions (Grouper, ActiveDirectory)

  • Experience supporting web and application servers (e.g., Apache, IIS, Tomcat, ColdFusion, NGINX).

  • Experience in testing application updates, database changes, and system migrations in nonproduction and production environments.

  • Experience supporting Financial Information Systems.

  • Experience with database management tools (SQL Developer, SQLNavigator, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Toad, DataGrip).

  • Experience in web design using HTML, CSS, and Content Management Systems.

  • Experience working in a project focused environment, working on projects of various sizes, and delivering objects on time, within budget, and with a high degree of quality.

  • Experience using issue and problem tracking systems (ServiceNow, JIRA, etc.).

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):

  • Demonstrated Knowledge in one or more of the following languages under a Linux environment: Python, Groovy, Ruby, Java, or Golang.

  • Ability to communicate on a technical level with other knowledgeable individuals to solve technical problems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of stream processing and message broker services such as Kafka, NiFi, SNS, ActiveMQ or RabbitMQ

  • Demonstrated knowledge with version control tools and practices (e.g., git, svn, GitHub, Bitbucket).

  • Demonstrated knowledge with middleware systems including LDAP, CAS, SAML, ADFS or other authorization systems.

  • Demonstrated Knowledge with the Linux and Windows operating system, including disk file systems, interprocess communications, TCP/IP networking, file permissions, user account management and security best practices.

  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills to analyze and evaluate technical requirements, information, or problems in an objective manner and make logical conclusions.

  • Ability to communicate bugs to developers and other stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of the Administrative Computing Policy and campus standards for the development of information systems.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in supporting and interacting with webservices via use of SOAP and RESTful based services

  • Demonstrated Knowledge in analyzing applications written in one more of the following languages: Java, Javascript/Node.js, ReactJS, PHP, ColdFusion, Python.
