The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for carrying out activities to reduce the risk of infection transmission to patients, visitors and healthcare workers throughout the Regions Hospital campus and ambulatory care locations by working collaboratively with leadership as well as nursing, medical and ancillary staff. Key job responsibilities include coordination of designated components of the infection prevention and control program, which includes but is not limited to conducting surveillance for infections by utilizing standard protocols, managing and analyzing critical data and information, providing guidance and consultation on infection prevention and control practices, leading projects or serving as the infection prevention representative on workgroups and performance improvement teams, researching evidence and applying critical thinking to support decision making on practice recommendations, and developing and providing infection prevention related education.
