Job Description:

Responsible for assisting with implementation and maintenance of the Infection Control Program's hospital's surveillance. Serves as a resource to all hospital departments, participating in identified projects or groups related to Infection Control.

Qualifications


Job Requirements:
Education: Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Clinical Microbiology or other health related science required.

Master's in Nursing, Education, Epidemiology, Public Health, clinical Microbiology or other health related science, preferred. Experience: Two (2) to five (5) years clinical experience in health related field required. One (1) year experience in Infection Prevention or epidemiology preferred.

Other: Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit/department.

Technical Skills:
Computer proficiency to include word processing, spreadsheet and database.

License/Certification: Current State of Nevada license in Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, or other related health science if applicable. Candidate must be eligible to become certified in Infection prevention within two (2) years of employment.

Department: Infection Control Position Summary: The Director of Infection Prevention & Epidemiology is responsible for facility-wide activities of evaluating and managing infection control risks to patients and personnel through extensive surveillance and an effective reporting system. The Director functions as the hospital-wide clinical expert in the prevention and control of infection and is responsible for the facility-wide planning and implementation of the facility-wide infection control program. The objective of the Infection Control Program is to minimize the probability of transmission of infection, thus providing a better and safer hospital for its patients and personnel. This position is responsible for the coordination of the Hospital's Infection Control Program. Supervisor: Vice President of Quality Responsible to: Chief Nursing Officer Key Accountabilities: Develops, coordinates and manages the review and assessment functions of the infection control program; Initiates, develops and delivers education programs on infection control and prevention for staff development and regulatory agency compliance; Represents the infection control program through membership on hospital and medical staff committees; Serves as liaison and interfaces with all regulatory agencies, and the health care community concerning infection prevention issues to assure hospital compliance with infection prevention regulations. Performs targeted surveillance and prepares reports and statistics on healthcare-associated infection rates. Develops and promotes consistent application of infection prevention policies and procedures Supports emergency management activities and EOC through participation on environmental rounds, bioterrorism and patient influx planning, emergency response drills. Identifies community and hospital acquired infections as defined by the Infection Control Committee. Identifies situations that may present an infectious hazard to patients, staff, or visitors. Take appropriate actions to eliminate hazards. Identifies communicable disease cases to be reported to the Nevada Division of Public Health per established policies. Current CIC Infection Control Practitioner certificate preferred American Heart Association BLS certification required. Experience: Two years acute care experience. Experience in education and statistical analysis desirable. Minimum of one-year experience in specialty with knowledge of epidemiology, microbiology, and principles of asepsis. Special Skills: Completion of recognized course in Fundamentals of Infection Control. If not CIC certified, must begin process for certification by attending initial APIC certification class within 90 days of hire and achieve CIC certification with 6 months after 2 years of hire (maximum of 2 attempts at passing CIC exam).
