Job Summary:

Responsible for assisting the program manager in monitoring the EvergreenHealth Infection Control and Prevention program. Assists with the collection and analysis of infection control surveillance data. Works collaboratively with medical and nursing leadership to develop and disseminate policies, procedures, and practices around infection control. Serves as a liaison as indicated for the hospital, for state and local agencies, physicians and other providers, patients and families.

Essential Job Functions:
1.Reviews laboratory reports for evidence of hospital acquired infections, clusters or outbreaks, and microbial trends.
2.Maintains surveillance data for nosocomial infections.
3.Reviews medical records concurrently and retrospectively for presence and treatment of infections and risk factors.
4.Presents staff education programs for infection control review, new employee orientation, and requested training.
5.Accountable for following the guidelines for attendance, punctuality and overall dependability. Accountable for effective performance and follow-through of all assigned responsibilities and for completing responsibilities within designated (or agreed upon) timeframes. Completes responsibilities in a manner consistent with organizational policy, goals and values.
6.Responsible for the "Accountabilities" associated with this position in support of the organization.
7.Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • License, Certification, Education or Experience:

REQUIRED for the position:

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Washington or MT, MLT (ASCP) or equivalent certification

  • Certification in Infection Control within 3 years of employment

  • Course in hospital epidemiology

  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS certification by date of hire

  • Knowledge of principles of epidemiology, infection prevention and control, sterilization, disinfection, and sanitation.

  • Previous hospital experience

DESIRED for the position:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related degree

  • Experience in Infection Control programs

Infection Control Nurse duties are, but not limited to: * Develop a systematic infection prevention and control program. * Develop and maintain a method of identifying and recording known or suspected infections in patients and employees. * Carry out periodic inspections to ensure that procedures for the control of infections are being followed correctly. * Collect and maintain statistical data in regards to the identification and control of infections. * Identify objectives for infection control monitoring, data collection and reporting. * Prepare monthly reports to the Safety/Risk Management Committee, Infection Control Committee, Medical Staff Committee, and Nursing Administration Committee that includes data on infection rates by nursing units, site, and pathogen. * Report unusual clusters or outbreaks to Infection Control Committee and conduct investigations as appropriate. * Notify the County and/or State Health Department/Board of any reportable diseases, adhering to all internal county and state procedures. * Help control the spread of infection in accord with infection control policies and procedures by ascertaining the nature of the infection and the steps to be followed and judge their degree of implementation. * Identify the need for intervention in the care of patients and employees with infection and contact the appropriate individuals when necessary. * Track all monitor infection data to evaluate and investigate trends and report all trends to appropriate facility staff. * Evaluate and document the effectiveness of infection control activities. * Participate in infection control education of all employees during orientation and annually thereafter, including classes in infection control practices and employee health. * Act as a consultant in infection control for the Nursing Department by assisting with assessing patient infection control problems, planning and evaluating the care of the patient, and making recommendations for home care on discharge.
