Position Goal
The Infection Control Nurse is responsible for facilitating and coordinating the infection surveillance, prevention and control program. Responsible for promoting safe, effective control practices and for assuring facility infection control compliance with regulatory agencies. Coordinates and executes activities necessary for implementation of the Infection Control and Employee Health Program. Collaborates with administration, medical staff, managers, nursing and ancillary personnel to organize the resources necessary for providing quality services and a safe environment. The Infection Control/Employee Health Nurse demonstrates personal and professional responsibility, participates in caring atmosphere of respect, recognition and acceptance and assumes responsibility for own professional development.
Position Responsibilities:
Serves as a principle member of the Quality and Environment of Care Committees
Influences, coordinates, implements, and evaluates policies and procedures pertaining to job functions
Collects, compiles and analyzes data for reports and studies. Maintains records and reports for ongoing data retrieval. Facilitates and coordinates infection control and employee health quality management activities and communicates to appropriate personnel and agencies.
Develops appropriate informational materials at appropriate level of understanding and need for staff, patients and medical staff.
Serves as a resource person to department heads/staff by providing guidance and direction relative to Infection Control and Employee Health activities.
Serves as a knowledgeable and available resource on infection control practices and policies to patients, families and employees.
Assesses, monitors, measures and investigates infections. Evaluates outcomes on a continuous basis and reports this information to Quality.
Develops education and training programs for general information, prevention and control of infection for hospital personnel as well as patients.
Reports infections or communicable diseases to the appropriate public health authority as required by State Regulations.
Maintains compliance with national standards and regulatory bodies, including Joint Commission and OSHA.
Monitors and investigates potentially harmful infectious exposures
Provides care, within scope of practice, to employees for work related illness, injuries, and exposures
Identifies work-related infection risks and institutes appropriate measures
Experience:
Required:
5+ years of varied clinical experience, including documented management responsibilities and involvement in quality monitoring activities.
Experience with a wide range of cultural, age and educational diversities within a patient population.

Current Alabama RN license and current Georgia RN license or Multi-State licensure as a Registered Nurse
BLS certification
Must have a valid drivers license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
