Infection Control & Prevention Manager

Summary:

Oversees and is responsible for the Infection Control and prevention activities by establishing policies, procedures, and protocols which minimize hospital acquired infections within the institution and monitors compliance to assure a top quality experience for patients. In collaboration with the Director of Infection Control and Prevention for the network, assures compliance with all regulatory agencies.

In collaboration with the Director of Infection Control and Prevention for the system, assures compliance with all regulatory agencies and manages the development, design, implementation and evaluation of the infection control and prevention program at Danbury and New Milford Hospital (DH/NMH) in accordance with regulating agencies (CMS, OSHA, State DOH, and TJC). Manages monitoring and surveillance and identifies opportunities for improvement in infection control and prevention activities at Danbury and New Milford Hospital. This position reports directly to the Director of Infection Control & Prevention. Population severed based on scope and services in the department.

Responsibilities:

1.Manager, Infection Control & Prevention- Major Accountabilities Criteria A: Manages all activities related to Infection Control and Prevention for Danbury and New Milford Hospital based on national standards.

Works collaboratively with physicians, Quality/PI/risk management, Safety, Facilities, Environmental and Patient Care departments in driving improvement in patient and healthcare personnel safety related to infection prevention. Manager, Infection Control & Prevention- Major Accountabilities Criteria B: Updates and impacts Infection Control and Prevention policies and practice standards based upon best practices and industry trends.

Manager, Infection Control & Prevention- Major Accountabilities Criteria C: Manages Danbury and New Milford Hospital Infection Control and Prevention activities. Provides consultative services in matters related to infection control and prevention for staff, patients and visitors.

Develops and maintains interfaces and communication with senior leadership, performance improvement, nursing practice councils, clinical leadership, construction, renovations and environmental services for aspects on practices related to the infection prevention and control standards. Manager, Infection Control & Prevention- Major Accountabilities Criteria D: Manages, monitors and tracks process and outcome indicators related to infection prevention and control standards. Investigates clusters of infections with Chairman of Infection Control.

2.Manager, Infection Control & Prevention- Major Accountabilities Criteria A: Responsible for all Danbury and New Milford Hospital reporting.

Ensures the timely and accurate reporting of state and federally mandated infections. Ensures the communication of reportable diseases on a timely basis to the Local and/or State Health Departments. Manager, Infection Control & Prevention- Major Accountabilities Criteria B:

Manages and maintains infection control and prevention systems by working collaboratively with service line executives, directors, managers and staff to adapt, develop and implement the infection prevention and control standards at Danbury and New Milford Hospital. Manager, Infection Control & Prevention- Major Accountabilities Criteria C: Develops, coordinates and implements staff education and competency validation for infection prevention and control standards, guidelines and outcomes.

Manager, Infection Control & Prevention- Major Accountabilities Criteria D: Maintains current qualifications through continuing education opportunities.

3.Manager, Infection Control & Prevention- Major Accountabilities Criteria A: Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

Manager, Infection Control & Prevention- Major Accountabilities Criteria B: Performs other duties as assigned.

4.Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:

Desired: Previous Infection Prevention experience, Lean Six Sigma and CIC preferred.

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent experience.

Minimum of five (5) years' experience in infection control in an acute care setting.

Minimum of two (2) years previous management/supervisory experience.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

Leadership, communication, presentation and computer skills.

Knowledge of Joint Commission, OSHA, AIA, NY DOH regulatory requirements related to infection control.
