Under the supervision of Office Director, the Infection Control Practitioner will be responsible for all conducts related to infection control in assigned areas (units, clinics, and/or projects). Helps to prevent healthcare-acquired infections (HAIs) by isolating sources of infections and limiting their spread; systematically collects, analyzes and interprets health data in order to plan, implement, evaluate, and disseminate appropriate infection control practices Serves a content expert in infection control related matters and provides training and consultation to staff, patients, and visitors. The ICP is responsible for ensuring full compliance of regulatory requirements in assigned areas (units, clinics, and/or projects).
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree A Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) or a Master's degree in epidemiology, microbiology, or a related field. (Required)
Minimum Experience- Minimum of two years of experience in the field of infection prevention and control
Previous experience working in pediatric and /or academic healthcare settings.- Preferred
Licensure- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within one year of hire.
Required Skills/Knowledge
Basic knowledge and experience in clinical practice and hospital environment
Basic knowledge of statistics and epidemiologic methods
Proficient in using computer software such as Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication in both written and verbal and interpersonal skills with flexibility to meet a wide range of service needs.
Excellent time management skills.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within one year of hire. (Required)
Functional Accountabilities
Surveillance
Perform targeted surveillance in patient care units.
Report communicable diseases to respective units/department in CNMC and public health agencies.
Review microbiology reports and identify any cases of epidemiological significant infection in the hospital; report any variances.
Capable of identifying unusual disease patterns and assisting director for an outbreak investigation and management.
Ensure infection control databases are maintained in a timely fashion.
Prevention and Control
Identify trends in healthcare associated infections and implement prevention strategies.
Identify prevention efforts and collaborate with appropriate staff to plan and implement prevention and control efforts.
Lead and/or assist assigned units/services to be in full compliance with regulatory standards.
Ability to apply common sense and escalate concerns and issues appropriately.
Education
Participate in targeted infection control education initiatives.
Provide just in-time training and education to ensure staff compliance with hospital policy and regulatory standards.
