The Infection Control Epidemiologist assists the Associate Director of the Department of Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control and the Hospital Epidemiologist in developing a plan the infection control program for the hospital. The Infection Control Epidemiologist has the major task for implementing this program in their area of responsibility.

This employee is continuously evaluating all policies, procedures, and practices relating to infection control within the institution to assure optimum protection for all patients, visitors, and employees. He/she must utilize an advanced knowledge of epidemiology, infectious diseases, sterilization, sanitation and disinfection practices, modes of disease transmission and specific principles of infection control and prevention at the hospital. He/she is accountable to both the Hospital Epidemiologist and the Associate Director of the Department of Hospital Epidemiology and Infection Control for meeting these responsibilities.

Pay Grade: CO

Bachelor's degree required in a related field. Degree in nursing, microbiology, epidemiology, or a related discipline preferred. Master's degree in a Public Health or a related discipline preferred.

Requires a minimum of 2 years of related work experience. Related experience includes Infection Control, Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or Public Health

Bachelor's degree or Certification in Infection Control required. Master's degree Registered Nurse, Microbiologist or Masters in Public Health. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred

VIEW JOBS 2/26/2019 12:00:00 AM 2019-05-27T00:00 17 LOCATION OF POSITION PHPA, Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control, Baltimore, MD Main Purpose of Job Within the Maryland Department of Health's Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control (CCDPC), the Data and Evaluation Team supports the development and implementation of effective chronic disease prevention and control programs by serving as a respected source of information and guidance for all data-related needs. As part of this team, the Epidemiologist II supports state and local chronic disease initiatives by providing high quality surveillance and statistical data analysis. The incumbent oversees data collection efforts, as well as manages data analysis to assess population health status, trends, and disparities. S/he is responsible for communicating data in a variety of formats for a variety of audiences, including developing reports, presentations, and other documents. The Epidemiologist II provides data-informed programmatic recommendations to senior CCDPC and CCD Bureau leadership, and s/he assists in the development and evaluation of chronic disease prevention and control measures. The Epidemiologist II also recommends and conducts investigations and special studies, indicated from data analyses. Focus areas for this work include (but are not limited to) heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, nutrition, physical activity, arthritis and hypertension. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: A Master's degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics. A copy of your graduate transcripts (official or unofficial) must accompany your application. Experience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an epidemiologist subsequent to receipt of the Master's degree. Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS The preferred candidate should be proficient in SAS and have at least 1-2 years of experience in preparing chronic disease data/analysis for reports, presentations, and other documents.
