Coordinates hospital-wide infection control program. These responsibilities include surveillance, data collection, analysis, reporting, communicating standards, and evaluating compliance for practices that are associated with prevention and control of healthcare-associated infections. Performance improvement to identify and prevent nosocomial infections and to participate in the education of all hospital personnel regarding infection control and prevention. Serves as a consultant, educator, role model, and proponent of change to provide quality healthcare.
Provides consultation to Employee Health Services policies and processes:
Supervises employees in the performance of infection control related procedures as needed.
Acts as a liaison with public health authorities for the purpose of preventing or controlling the transmission of infections.
Makes recommendations to hospital teams, committees, or departments for strategies to reduce the risk of transmission of infection between staff, visitors, and patients.
Works interdependently and cooperatively with team members to actualize the function and goals of the department.
Performs other duties as necessary for the smooth operation of the hospital.
Performs other monitoring related to performance improvement in conjunction with department and organizational quality initiatives.
Bachelor's Degree in a Health related field required
Master's Degree in a related specialty preferred
Working knowledge of and experience in the practice of epidemiological principles and infectious disease as they relate to infection control required.
Working knowledge of and ability to demonstrate comprehension of medical and nursing education and patient care management, microbiology, pathology, immunology, and medical statistics or biostatistics required.
Experienced in networking through the use of listserves, e-mail, and professional organizations required.
Experience in crisis intervention, short term counseling, coordination of complex discharge planning needs, and leading interdisciplinary team conferences required.
