Position Summary: Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital is looking for a full-time Registered Nurse who is responsible for managing all aspects of the Infection Control/Employee Health Program. Responsible for maintaining knowledge and practice of Federal and State reporting guidelines, and TJC standards.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates the development and evaluation of the organization's employee health and infection prevention and control strategies, policies, and planning.

  • Teach principles and practical application of infection control to all levels of healthcare personnel.

  • Develop and implement a system for identifying, investigating, reporting and preventing the spread of nosocomial infections among patients of all ages and healthcare personnel.

  • Review culture and sensitivity reports of patients and personnel to determine if infection is nosocomial in origin.

  • Confers with staff nurses on all patient units on a regular basis to determine occurrence of nosocomial infections.

  • Confers with medical and nursing staff to determine appropriate implementation of isolation precautions.

  • Investigates infections occurring above established thresholds, and/or in clusters by patient units.

  • Initiates culture and sensitivity and/or appropriate isolation precautions when indicated.

  • Communicates appropriate reports to appropriate individuals and through the Infection Control Committee.

  • Complete required reports to the NV State Epidemiology Office.

  • Monitor use of germicides, cleaning products, antiseptics, and disinfectants in use throughout the facility.

  • Participates in the IC, EOC, and readmission committees. Reports pertinent employee health/infection control issues for discussion.

  • Presents infection control information at new employee orientation.

  • Coordinates and conducts quarterly staff education regarding infection control.

  • Is responsible to ensure all New Employees Health requirements are documented and completed. Monitors and conducts prevention/follow-up teaching following exposure or injury, while collaborating with HR as appropriate.

  • Collects and performs statistical analysis, interpretation and dissemination of healthcare acquired infection data, including risk assessment, surveillance priorities, and outcomes analysis.

  • Monitors local, state, and federal regulations and ensures compliance with accrediting and regulatory agencies' standards and requirements.

  • Assists with the development of educational resources and initiatives.

  • Monitors research and developments in the field of infection prevention and control to identify best practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Degree in Nursing

License and Certifications: Must have Current Nevada RN License. and American Heart Association Certifications in BLS upon hire. C certification within three (3) months of hire.

Experience: Previous experience in Infection Control preferred. Previous clinical experience required.
