Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator 2 for our maintenance team in a new automotive manufacturing facility in Summerville, SC!

  • This is primarily a 1st shift position that supports a 24/7 operation; scheduled work hours may include 2 nd shift based on critical business demand.

This facility maintenance technician is responsible for assisting higher level technicians in operating and maintaining an industrial wastewater treatment facility , troubleshooting pump and motor failures, keeping all level control devices in proper working condition, identifying and maintaining a critical parts inventory, and performing minor preventive maintenance on all related equipment, testing of waste streams, lab testing, process changes and general housekeeping.

  • Successful candidates demonstrate the commitment and ability to obtain a South Carolina LLR Class D wastewater treatment license within 12 months of employment and continues to demonstrate progress towards a South Carolina LLR Class B license with the expectation of achieving the Class B license within 36 months of employment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists the team in operating and maintaining the industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant.

  • Follows procedures regarding cleaning, equipment use, maintenance, calibration, and safe handling of chemicals.

  • Collects samples and conducts the in-plant tests necessary to control and monitor treatment facility processes and operation

  • Records in-plant test results, various meter readings, gauge reading, flow quantities and other technical data.

  • Performs basic in-plant maintenance according to the schedules and procedures established for the facilities to which assigned. This includes cleaning, servicing, lubricating and repairing pumps, chemical feed equipment, and other mechanical devices regularly found in water, wastewater and industrial wastewater treatment facilities.

  • Performs daily operation and monitoring of Utility Building (600) equipment

  • Any other related tasks requested by local management that support the successful operation of the Utility Building (600)

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or demonstrated equivalent.

  • Two years of experience in industrial wastewater treatment plant operations , or demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to obtain a State of South Carolina LLR Class D wastewater treatment license within 12 months of employment.

Additional Information:

  • This position will require the ability to obtain a security access badge at our client's location.

  • This position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires the ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Requires the ability to regularly climb extension ladders, roof ladder, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during shift.

  • Requires the flexibility to bend/stoop, squat repetitive during shift.

  • Requires the ability to regularly kneel repetitive for shift.

  • Requires the ability to move in a 90-degree fashion on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to stretch/reach on a repetitive basis for shift.

  • Requires the ability to walk extensively throughout the plant during shift.

  • Requires the use of a Company/Client approved utility knife.

  • Requires the ability to differentiate colors pertaining to wire color-coding.

  • Some tasks will require repetitive wrist movement.

  • Requires the ability to interact with all clients in a professional and friendly manner despite periods of stress.

Special Requirements:

  • Wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, high-visibility reflective vests, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed.

  • Cope with demands (stressors) that are associated with the job and/or the work environment so that acceptable levels of performance and overall contribution are maintained.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and certification in water / wastewater systems operation.

  • Knowledge of fundamental water / wastewater systems maintenance.

  • Experience with computer control systems.

  • Experience with Clarification and Dissolved Air Floatation.

  • Knowledge of sanitary treatment processes, including Lagoons and Activated Sludge.

  • Experience with a Scadaware Process Control Program.

  • Ability to work proficiently on a PC performing e-mail functions, documentation, and reporting using MS Office programs

  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment, including applying proper safety practices and following procedures while performing maintenance tasks.

Other Attributes:

  • Must be willing to work overtime when required. May be required to work holidays and weekends.
