Position Title: Technical Service Engineer
The Technical Service Engineer is responsible for assessing customer needs and providing technical expertise to both current and potential customers in support of the Industrial Starch product portfolio to maximize value creation. This will be accomplished by building strong relationships with customers and understanding their processes to provide enhanced solutions to the customers. This position includes a focus on starch handling and preparation equipment and processes. This position will include customer support, equipment troubleshooting, applications development, and new product development project support. This position requires a significant amount of travel (40% +).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Provides technical service to customers in a wide range of industrial applications with a particular focus on the equipment and processes associated with starch handling and preparation; and requires an individual who can interface well with Sales, Customers, and Manufacturing.
Work safely, proactively addressing safety concerns internally and at customer or plant locations
Serve as a starch and equipment resource for the Industrial Team
Interface with production and technical personnel, including maintenance, contractors, toll producers, and suppliers often working as a partner or consultant
Clearly and confidently demonstrate the value of working with T&L
Plan, coordinate and support customer trials and projects with specific emphasis on equipment requirements, handling of starch products, and troubleshooting; this includes completing calculations appropriate to the project needs
Confidently operate trial equipment successfully to meet trial and customer objectives with the ability to think and act swiftly to changes or issues
Plan and conduct lab work to support the technical and/or sales team as needed
Consciously manage costs of travel and equipment (maintenance, modifications, freight)
Manage the fleet of existing starch handling and cooking equipment, providing maintenance, modifications, and improvements as needed. The existing fleet will need to be maintained, use coordinated, improvements and/or modifications completed for a wide variety of projects
Support and advise sales and customers about starch handling and cooking equipment and be the main point of contact for equipment design, installation, operation, troubleshooting, and training
Provide thorough written documentation of projects and training documents
Significant travel required (40% +), mostly North America
Education and / or Experience
BS in Engineering or related field
4+ years of work experience in technical service, applications engineering, manufacturing, or process engineering roles; preferably in the paper industry or supplier to the paper industry
Strong background, work experience and skills with the design, operation, and maintenance of equipment and mechanical processes, preferably starch related
Solid analytical thought, engineering math and lab skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision yet stay focused and organized
Excellent ability to build rapport and develop collaborative working relationships across all levels of internal and external organizations
Highly effective interpersonal skills and peer relationships with ability to work in cross-functional team.
Strong written (technical and general) and verbal communication skills, with the ability to comfortably communicate with all levels of the T&L and customer organizations
Capable of managing multiple and challenging assignments concurrently; and to move swiftly and decisively, but collaboratively
Solid Excel, Word and Power Point skills required
Ability to travel frequently and on short notice
Experience with paper mill processes and equipment, lab or quality methods is a plus
