At a minimum, the essential functions of the Instructional Assistant are:

  • Assist in teaching students the general safety practices necessary in a maintenance environment.

  • Assist in teaching students the basic skills to safely maintain equipment housed in a plant environment including electrical, mechanical, and fluid power transmission equipment

  • Assist in teaching how to identify problems and make adjustment for optimal performance in a manufacturing environment including troubleshooting, causes, and remedies for common problems encountered in a manufacturing environment

  • Assign, direct, and evaluate lab exercises for students and classroom instructors.

  • Plan, organize, and assist in the instruction of courses in the day, evening, or on weekends on any Northwest-Shoals Community College campus as assigned;

  • Conduct and maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and instructional materials.

  • Assist with class evaluations and complete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy

  • Keep active at a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and stimulate enthusiasm for those subjects;

  • Keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work;

  • Assist with registration, recruitment and retention of students;

  • Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students;

  • Submit required reports to the appropriate administrative personnel;

  • Keep informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities;

  • Become thoroughly familiar with all college policies and procedures and comply with all college policies and procedures;

  • Participate in program and curriculum review and development;

  • Maintain accurate and complete scholastic records.

  • Minimum of Associate's Degree from an accredited institution in Industrial Maintenance, Industrial Systems, Electrical, Electronics or related field, required.

  • Minimum of three (3) years full-time work experience as a practitioner in industrial maintenance, electrical, or electronics, preferred.

  • Teaching experience in industrial maintenance, preferred.

SALARY:  Compensation is in accordance with the Alabama Community College System's Salary Schedule H35, Rank 1 ($38,876 - $46,476).
