Summary

The Fabrication Shop Painter is responsible for preparing surfaces and applying coatings to industrial structures, parts and equipment. Duties include cleaning, sanding, and ensuring proper adhesion for coatings, matching and blending paint colors to reach desired results, and maintaining healthy ventilation levels. This career requires the ability to use various techniques and tools in painting, the ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines, and previous industrial painting experience.

II. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Properly prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and ensuring proper adhesion for coatings.

• Applies primers, paints and resins to coat surfaces of equipment and parts.

• Utilizes techniques and tools employed in painting such as pneumatic sprayers, rollers, brushes, etc.

• Matches and blends paint colors to reach the desired result and consistency.

• Maintains a clean a clean and safe working area at all times.

• Monitors work environment for hazards and maintains healthy ventilation levels to avoid particle or fume inhalation.

• Follows safety protocol, including wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes.

• Other job duties as assigned.

III. Required Skills / Abilities

• Ability to successfully prepare surfaces for painting.

• Proficiency in applying various coatings using spray guns, brushes or rollers while maintaining quality and uniformity of coatings.

• Understanding of different types of paints, primers, and coatings as well as their appropriate applications.

• Ability to utilize various techniques and tools in painting such as pneumatic sprayers, rollers, brushes, etc.

• Ability to match and blend paints for desired results.

• Excellent communication both written and verbal.

• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

IV. Education & Experience

• High school diploma or GED-equivalent.

• Previous industrial painting experience required.
