Job Title Industrial Maintenance Technology Part-time Lab Assistant - KEOKUK Job Description

The permanent part-time lab assistant will provide students with assistance to the full-time faculty and students in the use of lab training equipment. The lab assistant will work independently from faculty to provide students with troubleshooting support as the students complete their lab assignments.

Program location is currently at the Keokuk campus but assignment may be at all SCC locations, including off-campus sites.

This position is a half-time Professional Services position (1040 work hours per year). Starting salary for the position is $33,000 annually. Pro-rated benefits include medical, dental & vision insurance, $50,000 life insurance, long-term disability, paid sick leave, paid spring and holiday breaks, 15 days vacation and participation in IPERS or TIAA-CREF retirement plan.

The term of employment is as per the employment contract, and relevant policies of the Board of Trustees and SCC.

Essential Duties Summary

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide assistance to students while in the lab so they may successfully complete their hands-on tasks required in each of the courses;

  • Assist in the troubleshooting and maintenance of lab equipment and communicate any needs to either the full-time faculty or the appropriate dean;

  • Regularly clean all lab equipment, as needed, and assist in maintaining a safe, organized lab environment;

  • Maintain regular communication with the full-time faculty within the program;

  • Address any student issues that occur while in the lab by reporting issues as they arise to the proper college personnel;

  • Comply with all SCC college policies;

  • Adhere to SCC's safety policies and procedures;

  • Maintain confidentiality of student academic information, in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act;

  • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational and Other Qualifications:

  • An AAS or BS degree in an industrial maintenance or engineering major is preferred. Must be able to perform the essential functions of walking throughout the lab and standing on concrete for extended lengths of time.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 full-time years of recent (within the past five years) industrial maintenance experience required.

  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, PLCs, and automation is preferred.

  • This position requires the ability to satisfactorily assist students with hands-on labs for courses related to the following content areas:

  • Industrial electricity

  • Mechanical systems

  • Industrial maintenance

  • Fluid power

  • Instrumentation and process control

  • Machine shop

  • Automation

  • Robotics

  • Programmable Logic Controllers

  • Boiler Operation

  • Industrial Heating and Cooling

  • Welding
