4 years related journeyman experience. Competent in: industrial equipment repair, overhead crane technician,performing alignment, welding and layout, pipefitting,reading blueprints, and understanding hydraulic/plumbing schematics and diagrams.

VIEW JOBS 5/7/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-08-05T00:00 Job Summary Operate, maintain and install the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment and building automation controls in assigned buildings. To consistently and reliably provide a safe, productive, comfortable and energy efficient temperature controlled environment for the students, faculty, staff and guests. Essential Functions Preform skilled preventative and repair maintenance, manage and operate the commercial HVAC/R equipment in assigned buildings. Assigned equipment includes the following: * Air Conditioning Chillers, with a wide variety of types, manufacturers and cooling capacities. Chiller varieties include, high temp absorption chillers, centrifugal, screw and reciprocating, from 150 ton to 2500 ton capacity driven by 1000Hp electric motors up to 4160 volts or 400° high temperature water for the absorption chillers. * Ventilation Air Supply and exhaust fan systems with up to 175Hp motors, with all associated drive components. (Bearings, belts, pulleys…) * High pressure and large volume compressed air systems and central lab vacuum systems * Heating system water pumps, chilled and condenser water pumps up to 200Hp and moving up to 12,000 gallons per minute of chilled water to cool campus * High volume temperature and air flow dampers connected to the campus automated control system * Rooftop packaged heating and cooling units. (Natural gas fired and refrigerant cooled) * Computer controlled fan and pump motor speed control systems (VFDs) * Heating and chilled water flow control valves. Both automated control and hand valves up to 24" size * Central chilled water cooling system piping and valves that extends from the MTC to the indoor practice facility * Large cooling towers that reject 10,000 tons of heat * Individual room and zone temperature and ventilation control systems that are connected to the campus automated control system * Maintain high volume building smoke evacuation fans and fire dampers * Building air filtration system vital for indoor air quality and building occupant's health * Prepare, protect and monitor assigned buildings and equipment for extreme seasonal temperature swings * Refrigerant management on assigned cooling systems that hold up to 2400lbs of refrigerant to keep BYU EPA compliant * Chemical exhaust fume hoods * Capital need assessment inspections and life cycle evaluation on assigned equipment * Computer room cooling systems * Environmental growth chambers and walk-in refrigeration Education/Experience Minimum education/experience required: 5 years' experience hands on commercial HVAC/R Preferred: 8 years' experience hands on commercial HVAC/R, Trade school or degree in related HVAC training, Facilities Management, Building Automation. RMGA Certified. Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications: * Universal EPA Refrigerant certified, RMGA certified (required) * Industrial Electrical systems maintenance (preferred) * Pipe fitting, welding and brazing (preferred) * Thermodynamics and heat transfer (preferred) * Chemistry related to all refrigerants (preferred) * Building automation and energy management systems (preferred) * High mechanical trouble shooting skills to be able to maintain a wide variety of HVAC/R equipment (required) * Physical ability to work in extreme and hazardous environments (required) Employee Class: Staff (Full-Time) Work Location: Provo Campus Environment: Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters Physical Exam Required: Y Physical Exam Details: Noise from HVAC/R mechanical equipment; 30 min to 4 hours; Up to 5 days per week; Hearing protection devices.
