Summary

About the Position: This position is located at Ireland Army Health Clinic, Preventive Medicine Service, Industrial Hygiene Section, Fort Knox, KY.
This position is Term position with Ireland Army Health Clinic it will be for a period of 13 months and not more than 8 years. This position may be converted to a permanent career-condition or career appointment without further competition.

Responsibilities

Inspect, test, and evaluate workplace environments, equipment, and practices to ensure they follow safety standards and government regulations.
Collect samples of potentially toxic materials
Work with occupational health and safety specialists to fix hazardous and potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
Evaluate programs on workplace safety and health.
Educate employers and workers about workplace safety.
Demonstrate the correct use of safety equipment.
Investigate incidents and accidents to identify what caused them and how they might be prevented in the future.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with operating industrial hygienist equipment used to sample and monitor environmental conditions for health hazards such as noise dosimeters, multi Raes, air sampling and ventilation system testing equipment; or assisting with assessing work sites for potential health hazards; or assisting with conducting employee training on hazards in the worksite. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below:

Education: Completion of a 2 full years of graduate education or a master's degree related to the occupation such as environmental or health sciences i.e. chemistry, biology, toxicology, physiology, nursing, and/or geology.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed under-graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
