Job Description Job Description SUMMARY DESCRIPTION The Industrial Engineer is responsible for applying Lean principles and advancing Weatherby's manufacturing operations to achieve cost-saving objectives and improve overall customer value and satisfaction. Aim to maximize productivity, minimize waste, and reduce costs by analyzing current operations, identifying areas for improvement, and developing solutions to streamline workflows and improve quality (SQDC), across all value streams.
Design and implement efficient systems and technologies that integrate employees, machines, materials, and information. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Establish work methods and cell designs to achieve optimal utilization of production facilities and labor. Develop effective cell designs, operator standard work and work instructions to optimize labor contents and flow.
Design, implement and maintain Kanban material flow systems through production processes that achieve customer demand through the most efficient use of labor, equipment and inventory. Facilitate and participate in Kaizen workshops of cross functional teams to implement targeted improvements. Support the development of visual management systems that monitor Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost metrics and drive necessary action for continuous improvement.
Perform manufacturing cell capacity analysis and labor planning that generate solutions to achieve customer demand. Develop optimal floor layout of equipment and workstations to improve the flow of material through production processes, inventory locations, and maximize space utilization. Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency.
Promote a team atmosphere of employee involvement through mentoring, education and participation in continuous improvement. Design and develop new tooling, equipment, automation, or new technologies to improve production processes. Develop and maintain product labor standards and support cost accounting activity.
Provide oversight of capital investment projects including but not limited to new / replacement equipment procurement and installation, building renovations or additions, process improvements, and process routing due to new product implementation throughout facility. Work closely with manufacturing, Design Engineering, and Quality Control to resolve technical problems, analyze manufacturing capability, and recommend and implement manufacturing changes when necessary. Train and mentor supervisors, CI, process and project engineers in lean manufacturing and quality system concepts, helping them to understand, embrace, and utilize those skills.
Facilitate the implementation and support proper work place organization (5S) and implement a World Class manufacturing environment. Managing projects assigned to support other business segments. Education & Experience Bachelor's Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering or other related discipline required, and 10 years experience in related field. Experience in a fast paced, lean manufacturing environment Competencies Experience in a manufacturing environment applying Lean principles and tools such as:
Kaizen facilitation, 5S, Value Stream Mapping, Problem Solving, Kanban, Visual Management, Quick Changeover, Standard Work. Ability to perform complex problem solving utilizing the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control) methodology. Ability to interpret product specifications including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). Familiar with statistical quality control methods Must have strong analytical, statistical and critical thinking skills.
Experience in Industrial Engineering Principles such as work measurement, methods engineering, and workplace design. Working knowledge of AutoCAD software Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite, specifically advanced Excel database development Experience in applying ergonomics principles to workplace design. Excellent skills in interpersonal relationships, communication and teamwork.
Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to speak and communicate effectively with both senior management and production. Work independently and possess a high level of self-motivation and initiative.
