About the Role

The Staff Industrial Engineer will aid the Industrial Engineering team in the standardization and continuous improvement of thredUP's operational processes. They must be able to work with various teams to successfully implement process changes. The Staff Industrial Engineering position is a balance of hands-on and computer related activities. The position will be based in our Hayward, California R&D facility with occasional travel to our San Francisco office and distribution centers located around the US.


  • Perform capacity analysis on all thredUP operations

  • Identify and propose process improvement ideas for improving operational efficiencies and customer quality for thredUP's distribution centers

  • Develop cost effective solutions for improving operator efficiency

  • Manage engineering projects from design, fabrication, and installation

  • Work quickly with little direction

  • Able to work with various teams to successfully implement process changes

  • Create, implement, and update specifications in order to standardize operational processes

  • Create and monitor various reports for consistency and provide feedback to operations

  • Perform detailed analysis and support recommendations with data

  • Participate in the operational planning and implementation of multiple projects from deployment to closure

  • Research and implement new technologies to enhance existing processes

  • Create new systems to solve problems related to waste and inefficiency

  • Design facilities layouts of equipment, materials, and workspace using AutoCad

  • Ability to design tools and fixtures using SolidWorks

  • Estimate potential cost savings for equipment and process changes and effectively communicate savings to management

  • Analyze statistical data to determine standards and quality objectives


  • Bachelor of Science in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience

  • Experience in a manufacturing or distribution center work environment

  • Experience designing and implementing automated systems

  • Prior experience working with simulation software

  • Strong project management skills

  • Familiar with 2D and 3D CAD programs

  • Comfortable navigating Excel and learning new databases

  • Excited to work out of our Hayward, California R&D facility

  • Available for up to 25% travel to thredUP's distribution centers located across the US
