Job Description

As an Industrial Engineer you will be responsible for analyzing and improving existing processes while playing a key role in driving for better productivity and cost effectiveness across the operations organization. Key to identifying and implementing changes to improve employee, facility and system performance while maintaining or improving safety, quality and customer service.

Responsibilities: Job duties to include but are not limited to;

  • Improving work methods through application of Lean techniques such as VSM, Continuous flow, Workplace organization 5S, Cycle time, takt time studies, Ergonomic, Define Waste, TPM program
  • Supporting information and technology system deployments and interacting with other functional departments to accomplish projects
  • Providing Operations with the necessary support and guidance for improving utilization of resources and cost reduction projects
  • Performing analyses, developing metrics and applicable reports
  • Utilizing CAD to design, redesign and enhance work areas and layouts to maximize ergonomics, space utilization, efficiency and reduce repetitive motions
  • Refine, Develop & Implement current and future SOP work instructions.

Health, Safety and Environmental:

  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at an assigned desk area.
  • Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.
  • Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
  • Complete all work in a safe manner and follow all safety requirements consistent with supporting the Company's goals.
  • Lifting guidelines in accordance with the Manual Lifting Guidelines noted in the Safety Handbook.
  • Follow all environmental requirements consistent with supporting the company's environmental performance goals.
  • Complete, and actively participate in all other EHS training requirements.

Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory floor.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent field)

Preferred Certifications: Six Sigma Lean Certification

Experience: 2 or more years in a relevant role required. Direct manufacturing and/or Warehousing Experience preferred.

Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • AutoCAD experience
  • Proficient with MS Work, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Project management experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct root cause analysis
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

Background: This position requires Sensitive Security Information (SSI) access and vetting via the TSA. Applicant must successfully pass a federal background investigation.

The compensation for this position ranges from $72,600 - $169,400/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills, job-related knowledge, and experience. The compensation package includes incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions. Smiths Detection provides comprehensive benefits including healthcare, 401K savings plan, company holidays, vacation, sick time, parental leave and an employee assistance program.
