Job Description:


As a member of the Engineering Services team at Scholastic's national distribution center in Jefferson City, MO, the Industrial Engineer will be assigned to support the automation retrofit project. The role involves close collaboration with other engineers, Operations, MHE/Automation provider, and key systems resources to best design and implements the automation solution in the Algoa DC. This position will report to the Engineering Manager who will lead the Description of Operations and Functional Specifications development for the automation project, and this position will be a key contributor to the design, test case planning, implementation, and execution of the automation project.

Working closely with Engineering, Operations, and Systems, the Industrial Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Data collection, validation, and analysis

  • Development and presentation of key design recommendations

  • Development and management of project schedules, utilizing MS Project to track activities, owners, and progress

  • Manage vendors and outside contractors; ensure compliance with all safety requirements

  • Work closely with internal Maintenance, Technology Services, and HR groups as required

  • Provide clear and consistent communication throughout the project life-cycle

  • Ensure effective change management through training programs and documentation of work instructions

  • Create, monitor, and maintain engineered standards in the area

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, or related technical discipline

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience presenting to Sr. Management

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously

  • Demonstrates strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills

  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Project


  • Proficient in Microsoft Visio, FlexSim Simulation, and AutoCAD programs

  • Experience leading project teams and managing contractors and outside vendors

  • Demonstrated experience with Lean, Six Sigma, 5-S, and Continuous Process Improvement

  • Experience developing engineered labor standards through time studies and MOST predetermined time system

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or demonstrated understanding and application of principles

3+ years of experience in distribution, logistics, or manufacturing environment
