HF Custom/Sam Moore Furniture, a division of Hooker Furnishings Corporation (NASDAQ: HOFT), is currently recruiting for an industrial engineer to work in our manufacturing plant in Bedford, VA. Hooker Furnishings Corporation, in its 100th year of business, is a designer, marketer and importer of case goods (wooden and metal furniture), leather furniture and fabric-upholstered furniture for the residential, hospitality and contract markets.

The Position:

We are looking for a detail-orientated and motivated individual who will be responsible for identifying, analyzing, and resolving opportunities in manufacturing methods, process flow, production quality, material/labor costs and safety, along with maintaining BOM, routing, and configuration information in the ERP system. Main duties include:

• Working with manufacturing leadership to monitor, analyze and design current and new production processes to assist in improving manufacturing process flow that will reduce material and labor production costs & time while improving quality.

• Perform time studies on manufacturing processes and equipment to determine piece rates and to assist in increasing productivity and capacity of work areas in the manufacturing plant.

• Input of BOM, routing, and configuration information in the system.

• Reviewing, analyzing, and planning work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and design layouts of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

• Estimating production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.

• Conferring with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

• Working with production supervisors to track, analyze and improve production material yields.

• Refining and enhancing processes by applying continuous improvement to areas of production.

• Actively seeking out and implementing cost reduction in all areas of manufacturing and other areas.

• Conferring with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.

Candidates that will be a great fit will:

• Have a thorough understanding of manufacturing systems and processes. (Furniture industry experience a plus)

• Understand and implement continuous improvement techniques in process flow, point of use, housekeeping, and safety aspects.

• Demonstrate ability to deal with people at a cross-functional level. Position requires ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form to present information and respond to inquiries from employees, customers, and suppliers.

• Have knowledge of various software programs including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access. (AutoCAD and ERP experience a plus)

• Have B.S or A.A. degree in manufacturing or engineering discipline or comparable experience preferred.
