Industrial Engineer

Overview

The Operations Industrial Engineering Organization is chartered to enhance the Continuous Improvement capability of Electric Boat through optimization of our manufacturing capabilities and workforce productivity to establish a competitive advantage. The Industrial Engineering group's approach is focused on three primary elements: Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to drive improvement initiatives, implementing Advanced Manufacturing Technology, and fostering the CI culture through employee engagement.

The Industrial Engineer will work directly with Operations and supporting departments to assist in all aspects of Continuous Improvement of the construction process from early manufacturing and assembly, to the shipout of major modules at QP.

Selected candidates will be responsible for the application of Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma principles to investigate, analyze and facilitate process change directly resulting in reduced costs and lead times within the manufacturing and outfitting areas at Quonset Point facility. Selected candidates will demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision and in a team environment. Candidates must be capable of combining assertive initiative with professional discipline to accomplish challenging tasks, and work as Change Agents to remove barriers that hinder change.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Assist organizations in identifying, planning, and implementing Process Improvements and Lean Six Sigma Projects and ensure they align with company objectives

• Lead teams on projects to improve safety and quality, reduce cost, and improve schedule performance;

• Identify opportunities to implement advanced manufacturing technology, techniques and equipment

• Fostering a culture of continuous improvement in the organization

• Work with leadership and employees on applying Lean and Six Sigma approaches to help achieve process excellence;

• Provide mentorship to employees when leading change

• Identify and eliminate the barriers that prevent successful attainment of company's improvement goals

This position is located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor's of Science Degree or higher in Engineering

• Minimum of 4 years' experience in operations, quality, design, engineering, or planning

• Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense

• Lean Manufacturing and/or Lean Six Sigma Black/Green Belt Training

• Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of operations (Casciano/Gabriel)

Preferred:

• Degree in Industrial Engineering

• Prior Industrial Engineering experience

• Project management certification or experience

• Microsoft Access proficiency

• Experience with Value Stream Mapping and Analysis

• Experience with Lean, Kaizen, or Toyota Production Systems

• Experience with process mapping and/or time study analysis

• Understanding of basic probability and statistics

• Knowledgeable in developing, utilizing, implementing, and teaching Continuous Improvement tools, including A3 problem solving, 5S, Kanbans, and/or Visual Management

• Excellent project management skills, with experience in scoping, planning, executing, and transitioning project ownership to customers
