Job Summary

We are looking for an innovative and creative Industrial Designer to join our team. As an Industrial Designer you will be responsible for creating compelling product designs and taking lead on the design process from concept to production. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated and detail-oriented designer that is interested in working in a collaborative team environment to bring innovative design solutions to market.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

ID New Product Design Implementation (70%):

  • Stays aware of new styles and trends and Creates trend/mood board presentations for both internal and external customers.
  • Provides current on-trend designs that address consumer needs while aligning with project CTQs, Brand guidelines, cost targets, and business strategies.
  • Communicates design intent through 2D/3D ideation.
  • Creates relatively complex CAD models of parts and assemblies. Creates Industrial Design final CAD geometry releases.
  • Creates 2D/3D visualizations to support market research.
  • Contributes to market research planning and execution activities.
  • Creates and coordinates internal/ external resources in creating physical models from CAD data to progress industrial design concepts.
  • Participates in design critiques and articulates personal opinions as well as sound design methodology. Begins to lead project presentations.
  • Incorporates higher level knowledge of human factors, ergonomics, usability analysis, material selection, and manufacturing processes to assignments.
  • Applies fundamental knowledge of User Interface (UI) & User Experience (UX) methodologies to assignments.
  • Applies fundamental knowledge of color, texture, finish, and graphics, when required
  • Works with engineering and manufacturing to ensure aesthetic design is properly implemented in the final product release.

ID Advanced Concept Development (15%):

  • Drive innovation through the ID-led development of future-focused style and functional innovation projects presented to the organization independently from the NPI process.
  • Support the advanced development (R&D) engineering team through the application of industrial design to technical innovations.
  • Actively participate in brainstorming sessions focused on addressing un-met consumer needs.

Broad Design Support (15%):

  • Supports the organization in design activities outside of the product development process.

  • Customer tours, collaborations, & product line reviews

  • Packaging concepts

  • Exhibition design

  • Provides appropriate documentation for US and foreign patents; able to work with legal department.

Education and Experience Profile

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university with a BFA or BS in Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of professional experience required, preferably in a high-volume consumer products industry.
  • Experience in design and development of products that use machining, injection molding, die casting, stamping, and forging processes preferred.

Required Skillsets

  • Strong sketching and conceptual abilities (analog and digital)
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to 3D form development and proportions, color, texture, finish, and graphics.
  • Demonstrated competency in design and innovation processes and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software (Creo preferred, SolidWorks, Siemens NX, etc.)
  • Proficiency in 3D rendering software (KeyShot preferred)
  • Demonstrated model making and form study model abilities.
  • Familiarity with project planning software for planning/tracking development projects (MS Project preferred)
  • Proficiency in Product Lifecycle Management software (PLM) to maintain version control of CAD components and design documentation (WindChill preferred)
  • Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)

Technical & Functional Competencies

Industrial Design Knowledge

Demonstrated application of design principles in solving complex problems and delivering unique design solutions. Applies a process-oriented design approach with a focus on continuous improvement. Has mechanical and/or electro-mechanical understanding with the ability to design around standard engineering components and manufacturing requirements. Ability to analyze and reach good decisions in a technical situation.

Teamwork and Collaboration

Key contributor to help the team reach their objectives. Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate design methodologies and techniques. Understanding of work team dynamics and the relationships between assigned team and the organization at large.

Personal Impact and Influence

Provides design leadership and direction to projects and teams. Coordinates with cross functional associates and can influence small group consensus. Can lead, support, and coordinate multiple assignments within the industrial design team. Proactive and takes on increasing levels of responsibility for design integrity and industrial design support. Acts as a resource aid to less experienced designers in accomplishing their tasks.

Communication

Creates and leads project presentations to clearly explain design concepts, compare product benefits, and present design trends. Ability to discuss and resolve relatively complex product forms and form relationships with the design team and broader project teams. Has strong presentation skills that allow for the effective communication of individual and project statuses.

Resource Management

Utilizes and works with global Industrial Design team and/or outside resources to maintain design intent as required to complete industrial design assignments. Utilizes resources outside of industrial design (engineering, marketing, quality, sourcing, and manufacturing) required to complete industrial design assignments.

Additional Requirements

Must present a portfolio demonstrating strong design excellence and problem solving skills.

Work Environment:

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
  • Hybrid work in office 3 days/week.

Pay Range: $68,697 to $100,756.

This "base salary range" is a reasonable estimate for this position at the time of posting. Pay within each range is based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, to primary work job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements and geographic location.
