Position Title: Indirect Consumer Underwriter II
Department: Consumer Loan Services
Position Reports to: Director of Consumer Lending
Position Supervises: No Direct Reports
The purpose of the Indirect Underwriter is to make credit decisions within established internal lending guidelines, regulatory requirements, and timeframes in order to achieve the Bank's indirect loan portfolio growth and profitability objectives. This is accomplished by approving or denying the indirect applications. Must be able to analyze risk factors, review credit bureau reports and any supporting documentation to determine the credit worthiness of the customer. Adhere to all Bank and Consumer Lending Policies. Demonstrate and implement our Trusted Advisor strategy to all internal and external customers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Review consumer loan applications and exercise lending authority within established underwriting guidelines to approve and deny applications for direct and indirect consumer loan applications for all products
Review credit bureau and vendor reports to determine credit worthiness of each customer
Interact with dealers clarifying loan decisions as necessary
Interact with indirect funder/ processor to maintain efficient loan flow
Develop and maintain positive relationships by interacting with auto dealerships to maximize car loan potential while minimizing risk
Monitor auto rates at competitors
Ability to make 3 quality business development calls per month to acquire new and/or maintain current dealership relationships
Thirty minute call back with loan decisions on indirect auto deals
Participate in the testing of new indirect loan software through LoansPQ
Handles escalated dealer related phone calls
Assist in preparing monthly indirect reports
Recommend changes and additions to loan programs to ensure customer satisfaction, efficiency gains and profitability of Company
Assists the direct underwriters with their work volume
Knows and understand the Consumer Loan Underwriting policy and Underwriting Standards
Front Line Leader for First Line of Defense for Compliance
Comply with all lending regulations as they apply to consumer lending
Education, Certification, License and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Associate's degree (A.A.) from a two-year college or technical school in a business related field preferred
1 to 3 years of indirect, consumer and/or mortgage lending experience preferred
5 to 7 years of indirect underwriting experience
5 to 7 years of consumer/mortgage underwriting experience preferred
Skills and Knowledge:
Thorough working knowledge of consumer lending underwriting standards, fair lending laws and regulations, consumer loan products, credit scoring and processing systems, must understand accounting principles as they relate the financial services industry along with a firm understanding of consumer credit practices, policies and procedures and applicable state regulations.
Responsible for knowing and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations and guidelines, as detailed in policies that include but are not limited to Bank Secrecy Act and other applicable anti-money-laundering rules, Right to Financial Privacy, Fair Lending, Community Reinvestment Act, Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, and other laws and regulations as they pertain to the position.
Knowledge of LoansPQ LOS system
Must possess excellent verbal and written skills and be able to respond to questions from groups such as lenders, managers, customers, finance managers, vendors.
Ability to calculate income including personal/business tax returns. The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commission, proportions and percentages.
Independent judgment required in order to be able to gather, analyze and interpret data.
Ability to follow instructions and to work both independently and within a team environment.
