Department Summary

The research and teaching of the University of Oregon Department of Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies examines the way that race, as a system of domination, is intimately tied to issues of gender, class, sexuality, migration, indigeneity, and settler colonialism. With our students, we interrogate historical and contemporary manifestations of White supremacy and explain how systems of domination and acts of resistance create and recreate racial subjects.

While Ethnic Studies traditionally centers the social construction of race in the United States, it also pays significant attention to transnational migrations and diasporas resulting from the slave trade, indentured labor, colonialism, imperialism, and globalization.

Position Summary

The Department of Indigenous, Race, and Ethnic Studies at the University of Oregon seeks to hire instructor(s) (to teach undergraduate courses) or lecturer(s) (graduate courses) to teach in the 2024-25 academic year, with a particular focus on the winter and spring terms. Depending on area of expertise, courses could be a mix of introductory courses and more specialized offerings. Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewable for up to a total of three years. While we are particularly interested in scholars with expertise in Asian-American studies, carceral studies, Black studies, literary studies, and relational studies, we welcome applications from scholars in all sub-fields of Indigenous, race, and ethnic studies.

Minimum Requirements

Instructor

• Master's degree in ethnic studies or related field.

• Experience teaching at the college or university level.

Lecturer

• Ph.D. in ethnic studies or related field.

• Experience teaching at the college or university level.

Professional Competencies

• Professional experience, demonstrated ability, or potential for quality teaching.

• Commitment to working effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong research profiles.

• Expertise in Asian-American studies, carceral studies, Black studies, literary studies, and relational studies are of particular interest.
