SUMMARY: The job of Paraeducator

  • In-School Suspension is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within an assigned classroom; assisting certified teachers in supporting the learning programs for students in their designated educational environment; supervising and documenting student behavior in the ISS program during non-classroom time; and providing information to teacher/s and staff.

1.Administers classroom assignments, tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process. Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards. Assists in obtaining, organizing, and using supplies, books, materials, and equipment as assigned for the purpose of maximizing student learning. Monitors and supervises individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, bus loading/unloading, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.

2.Documents student attendance and behavior in ISS for the purpose of making data driven decisions. Provides verbal feedback and/or written documentation of observations for the purpose of informing teacher/s and/or administrators of students' progress and behavior. Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, child abuse and/or neglect, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.

3.Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies and behavior; confers with teachers to assist in the evaluation of student progress for the purpose of achieving student success.

4.Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reference, providing a safe learning environment, and/or meeting mandated requirements.

5.Assists with record keeping, correcting papers, filing, and copying materials as needed for the purpose of gathering and maintaining data.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • No experience required

  • Experience working with school age children preferred

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal background check required for hire.

  • First Aid certification preferred

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals preferred; required within 2 months after hire

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, etc. preferred; required within 2 months after hire

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with office productivity programs, such as Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, etc. preferred
