Job Title: IN-MaC Manufacturing Operations Engineer

Job Description:

Job Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer will be an integral part of a team responsible for developing, fostering and managing operations for the Intelligent Manufacturing Testbed at IN-MaC in the Indiana Manufacturing Institute. The Testbed addresses industry's digital integration barriers across the production floor and across the enterprise to accelerate the transformation of digital, smart manufacturing tools and methods (Industry 4.0) through research and technology demonstrations.

The Testbed features physical manufacturing processes that are digitally interconnected into a robust, reliable, and replicable Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) framework. The IIoT framework will aggregate production information and shop-floor operations data into actionable insight for manufacturers to realize heightened levels of quality, efficiency, and flexibility across their enterprise and supply networks. IN-MaC is expanding its skillsets and seeks key contributors who will be integral to the operational success and sustainment of the Center.

Applicants are sought with demonstrated knowledge in machining, tool and die design and fabrication, CNC programming and operations, and technologies that enhance manufacturing automation. Developing prototype solutions for demonstration to industrial and federal research funding agencies is a critical aspect of this position. Candidates with these experiences are encouraged to apply.

What We Are Looking For:

Required:

Will accept a combination of education and experience including:

Journeyman-level Tool and Die maker (or equivalent), or

Associates Degree in a Technical Field and 5 years of experience, or

Bachelors Degree in a Technical Field and 3 years of experience, or

High School Diploma or GED with 8 years of experience

Preferred:

Three (3) or more years of experience in a subtractive manufacturing environment

Advanced machining and fixture design experience for metal and composite materials

Experience with CAD software (e.g. NX, Solidworks, etc.)

Working understanding of quality processes and validation systems in manufacturing/3D printing

Experience as an electrical Engineer or in mechanical electrical technologies is a plus

Ability to design, test, and debug applications on MTConnect (open-source) platform

Experience troubleshooting hardware and peripheral issues

Broad knowledge of electrical instrumentation and devices

Demonstrated project development and project management successes

Genuine interest in learning new methods and tools, and becoming the resident subject-matter expert

Client-facing skills to uncover and address commercial data integration challenges

Higher education outreach and engagement experience

Skills:

Working knowledge of work holding techniques, part fixturing, and fixture design for metal or composite materials

Configure machine tools to ensure an efficient production to specifications

Analyze drawings or CAD models to calculate correct part dimension for tool selection, machine speeds, and feed rates

Set up and monitor the operation of CNC equipment

Read instrumentation and gauges to accurately measure dimensions on parts being machined

Communicate recommendations to other IN-MaC staff to modify parts and processes as needed

Demonstrated proficiency in CNC programming (e.g. G code, M code, Espirit, Smartcam, MasterCam, GibbsCAM, Partmaker)

Develop setup instructions for CNC equipment

Facilitate on-boarding for other facility staff and students as needed

Provide quality assurance and setup approval of CNC machining and inspection processes

Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of motors and machines

Detail oriented with a sense of urgency

Make a positive contribution to a safe, neat, and tidy workplace
