Title

In-House Transport RN

Under general supervision and in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines established within the organization, unit and the Nurse Practice Act, the RN manages the care delivery for patients in the hospital throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Diploma, Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing required, and successful completion of Hospital, Core, and Department specific orientation based upon unit and experience level

Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the State of Michigan

A minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience at Bronson Methodist Hospital, preferably demonstrates a strong cardiac or critical care knowledge base

As of December 29, 2013, any nurse hired by Bronson who does not hold a BSN (or higher nursing degree) will be given 8 years from date of hire date to obtain. If, after 8 years, the nurse has not met this requirement, employment will be terminated.

Basic EKG certification required

BLS/ACLS competency required by completion of core orientation

  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment in order to set an appropriate plan of action

  • Must be able to constantly communicate both verbally and in writing. Activities and treatments must be recorded in an accurate manner and technical information and instructions must be communicated to patients, families, and all members of the care delivery team.

  • Excellence in internal and external customer service must be demonstrated.

Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time. Involves regularly lifting of bulky or moderately heavy weights (i.e., up to 50 pounds), and occasionally assisting with heavier tasks or expending the equivalent effort in pushing, pulling, or otherwise handling material, equipment, and other objects.

  • Provides safe professional nursing care to patients transported off nursing units for diagnostic or interventional procedures. Works closely with ancillary departments to provide safe & timely completion of procedures or treatments.

  • Nursing care includes pre-transport assessment, preparation, intra-procedural intervention and post transport evaluation. Patient and family education specific to the patient population is also included.

  • Work collaboratively with Charge RN to assist Cardiology and MICU in providing nursing care related to admission process, assist with sheath removal, procedure preps, EKGs, lab draws, bathing, ambulation of patients and IV starts.

  • Utilizes appropriate resources for age specific patient teaching.

  • Documents nursing interventions promptly including, patient's status, post transport condition, and patient and/or family teaching appropriate to patient age.

  • Develops or revises transport paperwork/forms.

  • Analyzes assessment data to identify appropriate patient needs

  • Organizes and delegates therapeutic patient care interventions to be implemented and evaluates effectiveness.

  • Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to assess condition of patient and detect deviations from normal.

  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, implements appropriate interventions and/or notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.

  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques and policies.

  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient, family and staff to gain cooperation, understanding, and allay apprehension.

  • Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient.

  • Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient.

  • Assists in patient education according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician and/or hospital policy including patient and family instruction.

  • Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol.

  • Manages personal, unit, and hospital resources effectively

  • Participates in department or unit performance improvement activities.

  • Assumes responsibility for professional development.

  • Develops and provides a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.

  • Acts as a clinical resource and role model to RN's, Unit Clerk, USAs, PCAs, and LPNs.
