FSU MAINTENANCE CONTRUCTION AND LABOR

Responsibilities

This position operates Heavy Machinery and performs related duties in support of Facilities Maintenance.

  • Responsible for safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment including backhoe, trencher, front end loader, skid steer, and mini excavator. Responsible for routine maintenance of equipment operated.

  • Assists with concrete finishing, form setting, fence construction, air hammer operation, street repairs, and parking lot maintenance. Performs carpentry duties such as lay-out, grade and construction of forms for retainer walls, benches, tables, sidewalks; structures requiring the use of cement, mortar, block, and related building materials. Assists with construction, maintenance, repair, and demolition of University structures as required.

  • Maintains records and timekeeping as required. Performs other related tasks in support of Facilities Maintenance.

  • Operates University vehicles and performs other related work as required in support of Facilities Maintenance

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to two years. Technical or vocational degree may substitute for experience.
  • A valid Florida or Georgia Drivers' License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain and repair a variety of equipment and machinery used in area of work.

  • Skill in safely operating various types of motorized vehicles including but not limited to dump trucks, tractors, forklifts, pallet trucks, front-end loaders, and golf-carts.

  • Knowledge of and ability to safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.

  • Knowledge of parts, equipment, maintenance and the mechanical operation of motor vehicles.

  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

  • Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment.

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.

  • Knowledge of the practices and the ability to perform skilled carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or other related trades work.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
