Location: Oklahoma City, OK

Salary: Competitive salary based on education and/or experience and $500 bonus after 6 months and $1,000 bonus after 1 year!

Position:

Manage the AABB accredited Immunohematology Reference Laboratory and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Be the on-site Immunohematology subject matter expert and provide consultation services for resolution of complex serological problems. Manage the IRL team of laboratory technologists, laboratory technicians, and lab associates, to include hiring, scheduling, training and competency, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations. Manage the OBI rare donor red cell unit inventory and ensure appropriate use of the rare donor inventory. Manage processes within the Ref Lab to prevent errors and increase efficiency.

The IRL manager will communicate directly with the Executive Director, Reference Laboratories for assistance with major internal and external issues, discuss proposed process changes/enhancements that may impact patient and donor testing, rare red blood cell inventory, or other reference laboratories.

The IRL manager will assist with special projects assigned by the Executive Director of the Reference Laboratories or OBI Executive Management staff and participate on OBI committees, as requested.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science degree with completion of a Medical Technology (MT)/ Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) training program, ASCP or equivalent

• Certification as a Specialist in Blood Banking (SBB) or international equivalent preferred

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in an immunohematology laboratory or blood bank with at least 2 years in a managerial or supervisory role preferred

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (e.g., soft management skills)

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Primary Responsibilities:

• Review and oversee the completion of quality control, calibration, maintenance, and validation/verification procedures for laboratory equipment.

• Ensures that the laboratory has and maintains the resources needed to perform testing (e.g., staff, materials, reagents, and supplies).

• Ensures the laboratory maintains documents and records in a concurrent and controlled manner.

• Ensure staff follow Our Blood Institute SOPs and Policies as outlined.

• Perform scheduling of staff to cover all shifts within the Reference Laboratory.

• Approve time off requests for laboratory staff to include PTO and sick leave.

• Provide and oversee work assignments assigned to Reference Laboratory staff.

• Ensures the ongoing competency of Reference Laboratory staff.

• Provide counseling as needed for laboratory staff performance.

• Perform annual reviews for Reference Laboratory staff and develop goals as needed.

• Oversee the hiring and training of new employees.

• Participate in the Transfusion Review committee and report metrics as needed.
