Immunization Provider Specialist

JOB SUMMARY

The Public Health Preparedness Bureau is looking for a motivated and dedicated individual to join our team! The individual in this role will participate in planning, implementing and administering the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program, Vaccine for Adults (VFA) Program, and the Arizona State directed Pediatric Replacement Program (PRP) and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The following activities are established by the CDC Immunization Program.

The position involves conducting site visits across the state with enrolled health care providers who administer vaccines to children and providers who administer vaccines to adults, specifically providing technical assistance and oversight, and monitoring program performance and adherence to the CDC Immunization Program guidelines. The Immunization Provider Specialist establishes and conducts vaccine management training programs for provider offices and clinics; develops and evaluates means for accounting for large quantities of vaccine and identifies, investigates and documents suspected cases of vaccine fraud and abuse. The individual in this role will produce reports and communicates verbally and in writing with providers regarding program goals, objective, accountability and compliance.

Additionally, the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS)/Arizona Immunization Program Office (AIPO) requires that the Immunization Provider Representative teach providers how to use the electronic ASIIS immunization registry system and assist them in in utilizing other resources provided to them by the Immunization Program.

The position will perform other duties as assigned, including researching and writing reports. This position will also participate in the development of internal policies and procedures for the VFC program.

Responsibilities include:

Performing quality assurance review site visits to providers who participate in the ADHS Immunization Program

Interpreting rules and regulations and provide technical assistance to ADHS Immunization program participants

Assisting with research, writing reports or other special projects

Attending meetings and trainings related to assignment

Creating and conducting trainings and presentations for ADHS Immunization program participants

Answering phone calls and prepare paperwork

Preparing and distributing information publications to program participants

Requirements include:

Knowledge of public health practices

Knowledge, or at least ability to learn about, vaccines, dosing schedules, storage and handling of vaccines, shipping and management of vaccine

Program planning and evaluation

Vaccine inventory balances; vaccine administration; program rules, regulations, policies, and childcare and school immunization requirements

Proficient use of Microsoft software, such as Word, Excel, Power Point and the Arizona State Immunization Information System (ASIIS)

Oral and written skills, ability to clearly explain principles of vaccine management and ADHS Immunization Program guidelines

Skills to work in immunization emergency responses

Ability to communication with providers in a variety of situations, retaining a professional attitude and excellent relational skills

Ability to conduct research and write reports

Ability to learn, utilize and teach information technology programs related to immunizations

Ability to conduct presentations in front of an audience

Ability to solve issues with providers regarding compliance to policies in a respectful manner and take advantage of teachable moments

Must be able to travel to various locations throughout the state to conduct quality assurance reviews and trainings for the ADHS Immunization Program

Ability to learn and teach ASIIS

Ability to understand and teach vaccine management, storage principles and work with providers without seeing situation as only black or white

Preferred Qualifications:

Prefer knowledge of immunization and/or vaccine management

Bachelor's degree or Master's in an area relating to health, public health, nursing or health information technology

Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.
