Summary Description

Repairs and maintains designated radiology and imaging equipment devices, instruments, systems, and related technologies to ensure safety and operational performance characteristics.

  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance according to hospital policies, procedures, and industry-recognized standards.

  • Maintains documentation of all service events, performance tests and corrective maintenance performed on a wide range of equipment types, including life support, monitoring, diagnostic, radiographic, and therapeutic devices.

  • Participates in and/or assists with development of departmental and hospital based continuous quality improvement initiatives.

  • Maximizes patient safety by supporting proper use, application, and operational performance of equipment. Assists outside vendors in delivery of repair services, audits service reports to ensure proper documentation and monitors completion and verifies charges submitted.

  • Reviews outcomes of preventive maintenance actions, makes recommendations to department management staff concerning the need to make changes to the PM schedule frequency, procedures and/or data documentation forms.

  • Performs rounds in assigned areas and assesses the utilization of covered equipment, responds to operational questions from equipment users. Keeps users informed as to the status of repairs. Assists with and/or delivers in-service education sessions to equipment users, in assigned clinical units.

  • Maintains current knowledge of the clinical application of equipment, devices, instruments, and systems Develops new equipment PM and incoming (acceptance) testing procedures.

  • Attends manufacturer or other technical service training schools and seminars, as assigned. Meets with equipment manufacturers and service organizations to discuss repair, maintenance, and applications of equipment.

  • Reviews technical literature, service manuals, trade publications and support documents to stay informed with current service/support related issues.

  • Assists with all projects, as assigned, related to the acquisition, installation, refurbishment, relocation or modification of equipment, devices, instruments, and systems.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

1.Bachelor's degree in Clinical Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or technical experience.

2.Seven or more years of demonstrated or documented preventive and corrective maintenance experience working on assigned specialty equipment, with attendance at device specific service training schools. i.e., gamma cameras; X-ray imaging; CT; MRI; Cath Lab; ultrasound; linear accelerator.

Skills Required

1.Analytical ability to gather and interpret data from a variety of sources, to define functional procedures, to independently oversee the application of methods, guides, and processes and to apply sound judgment in choosing proper course of action among multiple options. to recommend goals for a function/area and understand when intervention in current work processes must occur to ensure successful delivery of service.

2.Communication and/or interpersonal skills for contact with internal and external customers/stakeholders to discuss and interpret technical information and department or function policy. Discretion must be exercised in deciding what and how to communicate. Negotiation, diplomacy, tact and listening skills are required. Ability to read and comprehend policies and interpret technical materials is necessary.

3.Project management skills including the ability to define program, project, or process objectives, identify stakeholders and their interests, plan steps, coordinate and allocate human, technological and fiscal resources to accomplish goals and objectives in a resourceful yet timely manner.
