Position Description

Dynetics is seeking an Image Tracking Algorithm Analyst to join a diverse team to create solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields, Dynetics provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

The Foreign Weapon Systems branch goals include the characterization, analysis, testing, and ultimate defeat of all types of threat weapons systems including foreign missiles and radars. This group concentrates primarily on electrical, sensor, optical, and firmware aspects of the systems, but will engage any part of the system that advances our goals.

This is hands-on work involving actual threat weapon hardware. Our team develops equipment to control and test these threats in a Hardware-in-the-Loop environment. We also specialize in the development of countermeasure concepts and equipment.

The Image Tracking Algorithm Analyst will use commercial and custom methods to evaluate algorithms retrieved from threat weapons. This analysis will be performed at the assembly code level.

The goal of this analysis will be to describe the threat capabilities and vulnerabilities against the U.S. systems that oppose it. Hardware-In-The-Loop (HWIL) test setups will be developed and powered testing of threat signal processing electronics will be performed. Once analysis is complete, efforts will continue towards developing countermeasures for the threat system in order to ensure its defeat in combat.

Basic Qualifications

Candidate must possess a Bachelor's of Science in Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university with a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Candidate must have work experience in embedded software design.

Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of various FPGA and computer architectures.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience using C++/C and assembly languages.

Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of measuring the accuracy and performance of tracking algorithms.

Candidate must demonstrate an understanding of methods used for distinguishing, tracking, and classifying targets in the visible and infrared spectrums.

Position requires candidates to be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.

Candidate must have demonstrated experience effectively communicating within a team environment.

Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Other Qualifications

Preference will be shown to candidates who possess a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.

Preferred candidates will also meet some of the following:

  • Experience in debugging of complex devices or systems using standard digital and analog test equipment.

  • Experience working with general purpose microprocessors in a hands-on environment.

  • Experience with hardware protocol analysis and digital signal processing.

Security Requirements

Candidate must be a US Citizen.

Candidate must possess (and be able to maintain) a Final Secret Clearance or meet the eligibility to obtain (and maintain) a Secret Clearance.

The DSP Algorithm Engineer will analyze the Digital Signal Processor (DSP) firmware and FPGA DSP blocks from foreign weapons to understand the algorithms utilized for tracking, guidance, and counter-countermeasures. The goal of this analysis will be to describe the threat capabilities and vulnerabilities against the U.S. systems that oppose it. Test benches will be developed to verify analysis and further characterize the signal processing chain. Weapon system instrumentation and testing will be supported for data collection purposes. Once analysis is complete, efforts will continue towards developing countermeasures for the threat system in order to ensure its defeat in combat.
