Overview

The Institute for Genomic Medicine is seeking a senior research associate to join our team. Our translational research group focuses on studying the genomics of cancer, epilepsy, and other neurodevelopmental diseases using patient-derived tissues as well as murine models.

We use cutting-edge techniques including single cell RNA-sequencing, spatial transcriptomics/proteomics, and other genomic techniques. Senior Research Associate will report to PI and/or Senior Research Scientist.

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conducts independent research studies and laboratory analysis in a specific area agreed upon in conjunction with a principal investigator. Sets up research experiments and arranges from subjects to be used in research experiments through appropriate hospital and research institute procedures.

Collects and analyzes data in accordance with appropriate statistical procedures, and prepares reports, inclusive of graphs, tables, and photographs, of the results of studies. Collaborates and interacts with other researchers doing similar studies at CRI and at other research institutions. Prepares position papers about research studies including information about difficulties encountered in setting up and conducting research studies.

Assists in the preparation of scientific publications and grant proposals with regard to a specific area of research. Attends scientific conferences and gives scientific presentations. Serves as a resource person for other investigators and as a mentor to less experienced research personnel.

Prepares budget proposals for supplies and equipment needed to conduct research. Monitors study expenditures to assure that budgetary constraints are followed. Performs miscellaneous related duties as required.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Master of Science degree with one to two years of laboratory research experience OR Bachelor of Science degree with two to three years of laboratory research experience OR certification and experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Must be able to use research methods in generating and collecting data and analyzing the data for report preparation.

Must be able to develop complex position papers and reports, and help in preparation of research grant proposals and scientific publications. Our current research portfolio utilizes cutting-edge genomic technologies to diagnose and characterize rare disease, understand the genetic basis of epilepsy, neurodevelopmental and behavioral disorders, advance precision diagnosis and care for hematologic/oncologic disorders and apply rapid genome sequencing in the setting of the ICU. Our program is growing rapidly with expansion into multiple service lines including cardiology, gastroenterology, craniofacial, immunology/infectious disease and fetal sequencing. IGM Clinical Research Genetic Counselors are given a unique opportunity to interact with a diverse array of research, laboratory, bioinformatics and clinical staff as part of the Clinical Genomics Research Team. A Place to Be Proud Responsibilities * Identify and consent families to research projects as indicated in study protocols under the supervision of study PI/co-PIs and the Director of Clinical Genomics Research and Development. * Act as a liaison for projects with other departments as needed. * Interact with study families as a primary contact person and answer questions about studies. Return results to participants in accordance with protocol guidelines and in agreement with study PI/co-PIs. * Assist with teaching of faculty, trainees, genetic counseling colleagues, study team members and collaborators * Prepare abstracts, manuscripts and presentations to disseminate research findings. * Present community presentations and perform study specific outreach as needed. * Propose and develop process improvements and policies. * Participate in local, regional and national organizations as a committee member or leader * Uphold ethical principles associated with clinical research and genetic counseling practice. * Oversee quality initiatives to ensure accuracy of study subject records. * Achieve study accrual goals. * Obtain and maintain IRB research training and certification. * Develop and maintain IRB protocols for research in conjunction with regulatory coordinator. * Abstract relevant clinical information from medical records, oversee data entry into research project database. Qualifications KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Education: * Two-year Master's degree in accredited program in Human Genetics, Genetic Counseling or a related field. Experience: * Board-Certified by the American Board of Genetic Counselors. * At least 3+ years of clinical or research experience in the field of genetic counseling. * Must hold a current, valid Ohio license or a supervised practice license to practice as a genetic counselor. * Experience in publishing manuscripts and/or presenting abstracts/posters and presentations at a regional or national level * History of service on local, regional or national committees * Working knowledge of Microsoft office and Electronic Medical Record. Ability to learn systems such as Redcap, Confluence and JIRA. * Ability to work on multidisciplinary teams and communicate with diverse stakeholders. * Experience in clinical research coordination is preferred.
