Summary:

The Idaho Department of Correction has a vacancy for a Wastewater Treatment Foreman, Correction to monitor, operate, and maintain a wastewater treatment facility and related piping and plumbing system at the North Idaho Correctional Institution, in Cottonwood, Idaho. The incumbent must possess or be able to obtain the following licensures within (18) months of hire a Wastewater Treatment License II. They will also work on other maintenance and repair duties when not otherwise occupied with the upkeep of the water and wastewater systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate and adjust lagoon aerators, water diversions stop-logs, residual analyzer, chlorination and related treatment equipment.

  • Add chemicals to prescribed standards and draw samples of water for laboratory tests and analysis.

  • Perform routine chemical analysis of wastewater and change process based on test results.

  • Oversee cleaning and maintenance of structures, lagoons, and equipment for sanitation.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on sewer lines, pumps, valves, sprinkler equipment, motors, regulators, tools, and related equipment.

  • Operate internal combustion engines, sewer rodder, chemical sprayers, weed burners, suction pumps, and electrically powered hand tools Inspect and repair lagoon aerators, raw sewage grinders, pumps and motors, diversion stop-logs, injectors, valves, regulators, chlorinators, and irrigation equipment.

  • Use drills, grinders, backhoe, oxygen/acetylene equipment, cleaning solvents, and caustic products in repair and maintenance operations.

  • Hire, train, evaluate performance, and maintain custody of assigned offenders.

  • Supervise issuance and custody of tools and equipment as well as conduct searches for tools, weapons, and contraband.

  • Prepare requisitions for purchase of tools, equipment and chemicals, submit estimates for maintenance and repair costs, and maintain records and inventories.

  • Prepare and submit DEQ wastewater discharge monitoring, chlorination, and water testing reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must possess or be able to obtain the following licensures within (18) months of hire: Wastewater Treatment License I, Wastewater Collection License 1, and Land Application License.

  • Good knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment utilized with wastewater treatment and storage lagoon systems. Typically gained by at least six months work experience working in a wastewater plant or land application system and licensure in one of the following areas, Wastewater License I, Wastewater Collection License I, or Land Application License; OR 1 year work experience in this area.

  • Good knowledge of wastewater treatment chemicals and their safe use and storage. This is typically gained through completion of seminars or training in this area with limited experience in the application of wastewater chemicals.

  • Good knowledge of wastewater sample collection procedures. This is typically gained by at least one year of experience conducting water and/or soil samples.

  • Experience making cost estimates for equipment repair and replacement. This is typically gained by at least six months of experience making cost estimates or estimating jobs.

  • Valid driver's license.

Specialty Qualifications:

  • Willing to work in a correctional institution.
