Under the general supervision of the Administrative Director or designee, the Clinical Educator assumes responsibility for the direction and coordination of all continuing education functions of the critical care units, in collaboration with the Director's. In collaboration with other members of the management team, the Clinical Educator is responsible for the ongoing assessment of the educational needs of the professional nursing staff in critical care. The Clinical Educator also collaborates with the Director's regarding planning for and developing educational programs to meet identified educational needs. The Clinical Educator assists the Director's as a content expert and provides mentoring and coaching to orientees and preceptors to ensure a standardized approach to clinical orientation and cross-training between the departments within critical care.


  • Clinical Role Model Demonstrates an advanced level of clinical skills and the ability to support others to achieve the delivery of quality care. Functions as a resource person for staff members and assists in necessary education of individual members of the nursing staff. Assumes responsibility for the overall quality of nursing education provided for the critical care units, in collaboration with the Directors. This position may require the clinical educator to staff in appropriately to assist the critical care team in patient care.

  • Leadership Demonstrates interpersonal skills and competency in leadership, supervision and management of staff. Assumes responsibility for direction and coordination of all functions in the absence of the Director, as directed.

  • Administrative Demonstrates excellent skills in planning, organizing and managing personnel resources in a cost effective and productive manner for the operational areas of the nursing units. Makes decisions regarding activities within the unit based on Nursing and Administrative Standards, Human Resource standards, and Standards of Care for the unit, in collaboration with other members of the management team.

  • RN License in the state of Texas or compact state required.
  • BCLS and ACLS required


  • Nursing Associates Degree, Diploma Degree, or Bachelor's Degree Required.

  • Additional certifications or validation of education will be required based upon the department's patient population needs (such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, STABLE, FHM, and national nursing certifications, etc).


  • MSN preferred

  • PCCN or CCRN preferred

  • Minimum of five years clinical experience, three years of management experience preferred


  • Reads and writes basic English.

  • Ability to move in excess of 50 pounds with assistance from staff

  • Knowledge of body substance isolations.

  • Ability to listen, empathize and respond to patients, families, internal and external partners, managerial and employee needs.
