SCHEDULE: 40 hours (Weekly) Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. 4:30 p.m.

(Flexibility required and based upon program needs. Will be expected to work some holidays and weekends)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Pine Street Inns culinary workforce training program, iCater, provides trainees with classroom, internship, on on-the-job training to acquire job skills, a work history, and self-sufficiency. Working within the Food Services team, and in tandem with the iCater staff, case managers, and trainers, the iCater Job Training Program Chef will serve as teacher and role model, teaching key skills and inspiring iCater Job Training Program participants in areas of food safety and sanitation, knife safety, proper knife handling techniques, recipe modification, cooking terminology, and preparing recipes, basic food preparation skills and industrial kitchen operations.

In addition, they should provide classes with a fun, conversational experience while cooking.

The Chef Instructor will provide day-to-day supervision and management of the caf interns. In conjunction with the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef, this person would plan all special meals offered in the staff caf. Operations of the staff caf requires assigning trainees to their work stations, monitoring their performance and ensuring that all tasks are completed in accordance to the standards and practices of the department with attention to all ServSafe practices.

This individual will also work closely with the trainees and Workforce Development Team on job readiness assessments that will include job-specific duties and behavioral skills.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associates Degree in Culinary, Hospitality or Food Service Operations

  • Minimum of two years of experience in high volume kitchen, or Banquet and Catering experience.

  • Formal culinary training or equivalent preferred.

  • A passion for excellence through teamwork, positive change, and communication.

  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated coaching style reflecting compassion, wisdom, and integrity.

  • Experience working with disadvantaged individuals preferred.

  • ServSafe Management Certification.

  • Minimum of two (2) years experience working in food services as a trainer or instructor

  • Demonstrable ability to tailor trainings and teaching to the needs of the trainee

  • Staff supervision experience

  • Ability to provide effective leadership

  • Must have strong organizational skills with attention to details

  • Must have experience working with a culturally and ethnically diverse workforce

Requires discretion and judgment to organize priorities, complete tasks, and handle confidential and administrative information. Responsible for: the daily and long-term calendar management and coordination of meetings/conference calls; the preparation of all correspondence and collateral supporting meetings; coordinating travel arrangements; managing relationships with key internal/external program supporters and network colleagues, including overseeing visits by these parties. Provides general administrative support to the Nutrition & Food Service Department, including the Director of the Dietetic internship. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assessing and coordinating programs, analyzing data and creating reports, submitting monthly financial data and assisting with special projects. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Provides daily calendar and long-term schedule management for the Director of Nutrition & Food Services including: planning and sending timely notifications of scheduled meetings; re-schedules any canceled appointments in a timely manner * Sources agenda items, prepares, and disseminates agendas; attends meetings to scribe minutes (as requested); schedules conference rooms appropriate to meeting size, function and anticipated attendees; orders refreshments (as needed); ensures audiovisual capabilities needed to support meeting are present and functional; ensures all meeting attendees receive timely and detailed information including directions to the Department and/or appropriate dial-in information (as needed). * Drafts and sends out written communications for entire NFS Department. Prepares drafts for publication in Hotline and MGH Broadcast. Acts as communication liaison for the department * Prepares payroll; enters timesheet data into KRONOS on a weekly basis. Responds to routine payroll questions. Prepares office schedule weekly. * Manages licenses and permits required by various public authorities; proactively tracks status; assures timely renewal; maintains the NFS portion of the shared inter-departmental database of license and permit certificates * Assures the effective documentation and archiving of NFS records; utilizes electronic storage options for satisfying permanent recordkeeping needs. Transmits employee evaluations to HR records. * Inventory and Orders all office supplies. Sources vendors for items needed for department notifications and Dietetic Internship brochures/graduation. Orders supplies for the EFU, tamper-proof tape & blue tape. * Makes travel arrangements including transportation (air/ground), hotel, and rental arrangements; demonstrates flexibility in adjusting arrangements as needed. * Collects and organizes corresponding documents, receipts, and any other travel related paperwork in support of the timely submission of business related and personal expense reimbursements for supported personnel. * Maintains non-complex office files and record keeping procedures, in support of expense reimbursement and programmatic policies. * Performs general clerical duties including photocopying, faxing, filing, and scanning documents as needed. * Responsible for providing key access to the office. Orders Office supplies and paper as needed. * Maintains Clinical education materials and patient tray communication materials. Reviews department list for MGH specific awards and makes appropriate changes. * Prepares presentation materials, including but not limited to graphics, PowerPoint, Excel presentations) presentations and performs word processing duties to include letters, memos, emails and other types of correspondence. Performs document photocopying, scanning, faxing, filing as required. * Cross trained to provide coverage for other NFS support staff positions as needed, such as Main Office reception desk * Assists the dietetic internship director with application process, orientation planning and graduation. Tracks and submits dietetic internship application fees and other related items * Acts as a hospital and department resource to dietetic interns. Provides guidance on policies and procedures.
