GENERAL SUMMARY: # The IC Admissions Counselor is responsible for all aspects of preadmission activities including evaluations, insurance preauthorization, distribution of preadmission information and scheduling.# Utilizes counseling and therapeutic techniques in interactions with clients and family to determine eligibility and appropriateness for treatment.# Provides the Independence Center team with preadmission information and communicates with Utilization Review to enhance continuity of care.# Coordinates admission services between levels of care.


PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


1.###### Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 2.##### Maintains contact with prospective clients seeking treatment at the Independence Center; acts as the primary gatekeeper for admissions to the Independence Center. 3.###### Provides counseling services for both group therapy and lecture series as part of the Independence Center inter-disciplinary team approach. 4.##### Reviews forwarded evaluations from referral sources and/or schedules clients for evaluation to determine and assign level of care needs; identifies client needs that cannot be met by the Independence Center and assists client in utilizing community resources available. 5.###### Schedules and screens emergent referrals to the Independence Center either from external or internal sources. 6.##### Arranges for payer verification and approval of recommended treatment service; obtains third party payer benefit information and performs initial pre-authorizations. 7.###### Maintains communication with the client, family, referral sources, and payer source in reference to financial arrangements, treatment recommendations and follow-up services. 8.##### Schedules admissions and notifies appropriate Independence Center clinical team of admission plans, client#s presenting problem, and recommendation for treatment services. 9.##### Oversees or completes admission/intake documentation; initiates needed documentation to open medical record for each admission. 10.## Oversees orientation of client and family to the Independence Center services; obtains needed signatures on rights, rules, and obligations. 11.## Maintains open and consistent communication with Medical Center#s Quality Management Review representative, verifying personnel in Patient Financial Services, Patient Registrars and the Independence Center clinical team regarding appropriate treatment planning. 12.## Schedules and leads on-site meetings with referral source agencies in order to enhance knowledge of Independence Center services and referral process. 13.## Establishes and maintains effective therapeutic relationships with clients and/or families and significant others who are experiencing a variety of complex substance abuse problems. 14.## Ensures completeness and timeliness in clinical record keeping.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


Bachelor#s degree in health or behavioral health related field required.# Licensure as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) or a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) with active plans to become a LADC required.# Minimum of two (2) years experience in chemical dependency counseling required.# Nursing education background preferred. # If prior or current history of alcohol and drug dependency, must provide evidence of sobriety for a minimum of 12 months prior to employment. # # OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS: # None
