The opportunity:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an IBMi/AS400 Systems Engineer to support the administration, processes, and projects addressing IT Infrastructure operational needs with particular emphasis on IBMi Midrange. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the physical and virtual Infrastructure is maintained in a professional and secure manner. The role also encompasses physical/ virtual support of the IBMi Midrange Power 10 servers.
Key responsibilities:
Supporting the, administration, troubleshooting, recovery, modification, maintenance and upgrade of IBMi Midrange Power servers/systems (Virtual/Physical) and components.
Ensuring the IBMi Servers are appropriately engineered and secured using security best practices for the specific solution or application and performing technical problem resolution and support.
Matrix manage a team of IBMi Systems Operators providing administrative and advanced operator support to them inside and outside of normal business hours to include provision of procedures covering tasks arising.
Collaborate with peers & suppliers both regional and global to provide operational support, with emphasis on managing our third party IBMi support Vendor.
Administration of multiple IBMi Partitions and instances.
Work as part of a team to support business change projects from an IBMi point of view in a cooperative and efficient manner. Input into project planning to ensure that requirements of own area of IT (service management / architecture / risk & security) are properly addressed in projects, and project delivery is implemented correctly in own area.
Document outages, errors and any other customer or service issues, administer actions to resolve service problems and perform incident, problem, and escalation management for own area of responsibility.
Backup and data life-cycle reporting.
Patching & compliance maintenance including overseeing the installation of IBMi Cumulative Packs.
Provide effective, efficient, and professional solutions to all customers' queries or concerns.
Provide support and deployment functions to other IT Teams outside of normal working hours when required.
Your skills and experience:
Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in computer science (Preferred)
IBMi Power Server experience.
IBM I OS administration.
Experience of IBMi Flash Copy Manager, Fortra Halcyon & Fortra Powertech would be an advantage.
Highly motivated and comfortable working with multiple technologies.
The ability to work in a team environment and to make a positive contribution to help build our culture.
Commercial awareness and ability to carry this through daily activities.
Problem Solving skills and a passion for all things IT and IBMi.
Experience working in mixed technology environments, with particular emphasis on IBMi and Microsoft Server/Applications integration in virtualized Environments.
(Preferred but not mandatory) Base certifications and knowledge of Server applications such as SQL, IIS, SMTP, FTP and others, cross platform.
A solid understanding of IBMi Midrange Operating Systems Administration and Maintenance.
Good knowledge of common web/system security practices & certificates management within an IBMi environment.
A good understanding of Active Directory and how it relates to the servers/systems is required in addition to a good understanding of DNS and TCP/IP.
Knowledge of Microsoft O365.
