  • Evaluates patient's overall oral health examining oral cavity for signs of periodontal disease or possible cancers.

  • Follows through with oral hygiene procedures in accordance with treatment plans prescribed by the attending Dentist.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Associates or two (2) year degree required.

  • Registered Dental Hygienist RDH licensure required.

The incumbent provides dental hygiene services as part of a dental clinic team in a vibrant dental clinic to meet the oral health needs of residents. This position is headquartered in Port Charlotte. Certain immunizations may be required. This position is part-time with flexible hours. The pay for this position is $32.00 per hour. REQUIREMENTS: A valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation are required. Fluency in Spanish or Creole is preferred. Must be licensed in Florida as a Dental Hygienist as outlined in the FL Dental Practice Act. EMERGENCY DUTY: Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat thereof, man-made or natural. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Conducting patient screening procedures such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, dental charting and taking blood pressure and pulse. Abnormalities are reported to the Dentist. * Taking and developing dental radiographs (x-rays) * Removing calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth * Applying preventive materials to the teeth (e.g., sealants and fluorides) * Educating patients of appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health (e.g., tooth brushing, flossing and nutritional counseling) * Counseling patients about good nutrition and its impact on oral health * Making impressions of patients' teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs) * Accurately documenting services provided in the electronic dental record * Administering anesthetics to patients as requested by the Dentist * Preparing fillings * Applying cavity-prevention treatments * Preparing laboratory diagnostic tests * Smoothing and polishing dental restorations KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES DEEMED ESSENTIAL TO THIS POSITION: * Knowledge of Statutes, Rules and Regulations that pertain to the program * Use of equipment and supplies related to the position * Program development and quality/process improvement * Knowledge of the prevention and treatment of dental disease of public health significance, prevention of diseases of environmental origin, prevention of injuries, and promotion of healthy behaviors * Skills in assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient and processes * NOTE: Your responses to qualifying questions for this position must be verifiable by documentation provided through the electronic application process. * This position requires a security background check and/or drug screening and participation in direct deposit.
