Air Products & Chemicals Inc. in Allentown, PA seeks a Hydrogen Refueling Systems (HRS) Product Engineer.

DUTIES: Design and maintain the key components of Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) product lines and production in support of Hydrogen for Mobility (H2FM) energy market.

Develop HRS products using product-based approach to achieve low capital cost baseline. Participate in full lifecycle of product development, from product strategy development and product planning to conceptual design, to commercialization. Use knowledge of fueling station mechanical design and control systems to operate hydrogen fueling systems, including integrating, commissioning, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting all major hydrogen station components.

Ensure product development tasks are completed correctly, on time, and within the established budget. Collect data and cross functional feedback from previous and ongoing product development projects to support future product updates and improvements. Support reliability improvements and maintenance cost reduction.

Develop a batch process fueling simulation and perform station sizing for storage, compression, and process cooling. Participate in equipment specification for HRS product line and design piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID). Develop construction and modularization strategy for the product line and develop a global sourcing strategy. Produce product documentation (including technical risk management documentation, First-Time Engineering documentation, Commercialization documentation, and product life cycle cost documentation) to support the Product Development team.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field of study. 5 years of experience designing hydrogen technologies and hydrogen fueling systems, including on-site generation (Electrolyzers), hydrogen compression (reciprocating), cooling systems, hydrogen storage systems, and hydrogen dispensing (private and point of sale); and operating hydrogen fueling systems including integrating, commissioning, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting all major hydrogen station components; of which 1 year of experience includes using the following fueling standards for third-party certification of hydrogen product lines:

SAEJ2601, SAEJ2719, SAEJ2799, and NFPA2. Approximately 20-25% domestic and international travel required.

Sound like you The Hydrogen Refueling Systems (HRS) Machinery Engineer is responsible for providing machinery equipment selection estimating and design work in support of product development for projects, customers, operations and the HRS business area. Work includes: ➢ preparing rotating equipment package specifications ➢ clarifying vendor proposals ➢ developing technical bid evaluations ➢ performing order kick off meetings ➢ creating technical requisition purchase packages ➢ executing equipment design reviews The role is to drive global product competitiveness and efficiency within APCI via product sustaining and new product development activities though technical and work process knowledge and expertise. A high degree of team building, teamwork and influence is required. Projects primarily involve heavy duty automotive fueling stations, but the intent is also to support fueling of other equipment such as light duty automotive, forklifts, aircraft, ships, etc. Several automakers, most notably Toyota, Hyundai, and Honda, are introducing mass-market hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. More recently companies such as New Flier and others have begun to offer heavy-duty PEM Fuel Cell Vehicles for the bus and truck markets. These automakers are bringing new technology to market to meet emissions reduction targets mandated by regulations worldwide. These vehicles will need a widespread network of 350 bar (5000 psig) and 700 bar (10,000 psig) hydrogen fueling stations for successful consumer acceptance. Principal Accountabilities: * Work with the commercial, technology, engineering, procurement, regional product and operations team members and key equipment suppliers. (including external engineering firms to provide machinery equipment and process equipment packages such as reciprocating, diaphragm, hydraulic intensifier, and screw compressors, packaged refrigeration units, pumps, cooling towers, water treatment systems, oil removal systems, condensers, silencers, etc. in support of HRS. * Prepare engineering specifications, data sheets, and inspection and testing plans for required equipment. Review suppliers' proposals and develop technical evaluations. * Participate in plant operability reviews and hazard reviews as applicable to the rotating equipment. * Support the construction team during installation of equipment. Perform site inspections as needed to ensure installation in accordance with Air Products and suppliers' requirements. * Build good relationships and connect with global machinery community leads to share the standard methodology and technology.
